Nope, I'm in Norman. That's why I was thinking just to do this once every couplea months. Or we could take turns having it in different parts of the state? I have a feeling that the Sooners I've seen on WC are all over the state.

Hi, I'm all the way up in Miami, but I can contribute moral support if nothing else. I am looking to participate in a few shows this summer and hope to find a new gallery home this year. Enjoyed Shirley's Wewoka festival last fall.

I'm in Oklahoma City. This sounds like a great idea. I've also been looking to find some people to meet up with to do plein aire (I'm still very much a "studio" painter at this state, but I'm trying). I still work a full-time job because my art isn't paying the bills, so I cannot do anything during the week, but road trips on the weekend would be wonderful.

March 15th to the 20th my hubby and I will be celebrating our 2nd anniverary by going to where we spent our honeymoon. ;) :D
April would be much better for me. Where are we all planning to meet up and what does everyone want to do that day? Since I have never painted outdoors or with a group I'm hoping the more experienced of the goup will be willing to push me in the right direction. (I'm a sculptor but really want to learn to paint better) :) Oh, are spouses invited if they are interested?

I'm easy, April would work too, but NOT the first weekend of the month as thatis Med Faire here in Norman. Sure, as far as I'm concerned, spouses are welcomed.
I had in mind bringing some of our work and talking shop, you know critiquing it. I've no interest in plein aire painting, myself.

I race on a mountain bike team so I'll be in Lawton the first weekend in March racing the 12 Miles of Hell.
I'm doubting that we'll find a weekend when everyone can make it, so just go with the "field of dreams" motto... plan it and they will come.
Are we planning to just meet or paint too?

I'm in Owasso just outside of Tulsa, I would love to be part of this group. I also don't have a car, just access to one for local use. I'm in the process of moving right now , so things will be hectic for a while. I am a studio painter but would still enjoy the outings. I miss having a group of artist friends from when I was in school. Sounds like a good idea, hope to be included in this.

Okay folks, we have an idea of who will have time when. Somebody want to pick a date, time and place? The first and second weekends in April are out for me. Med Faire the first weekend and my daughters birthday the second weekend-or that might be when we will be celebrating it anyway. And March looks more and more like its out for me too. I'm behind in my training class, besides trying to get stuff done for Med Faire AND a commission piece I have GOT to get done. Sigh... I really doubt if we are all going to be able to get together at the same time, which is a shame, but at least maybe we can all stay in touch, with smaller groups getting together as possible. Who knows we might be able to ALL get together yet!
So somebody pick! Please! (grin)

I'm just going to throw this out as an idea. Feel free to shoot it down. :)
How about getting together at a local restaurant and have an initial meet and greet? That way we can get to know each other and find out what everyone's interests are.
Also, we can get an email address list together and keep in touch that way or here in this forum. If someone has an event going on (gallery opening, showing at festival, medieval fair booth etc.) we can let everyone know and go support each other and see what we are all up to.
Personally, I'm interested in finding out what all kinds of art each of you do. :)

Leigh, I would be able to swing down to Norman to pick you up.
Is there a restaurant/cafe in Norman that would be good to meet or would downtown OKC be a more central location for out-of-towners?
It sounded like March was no good for many people, so to just to throw a date out there, what about Sat. April 17th? I personally don't care what time of day, so what would work best for everyone else?
There is a great coffee shop in OKC, near Paseo area, called The Red Cup that has great coffee and plenty of places to sit. They have a limited menu, but what I've eaten there has been really good. It's been a while since I lived in Norman, so I don't know all of the good places to go to there anymore. There is always one of the bookstore cafes, like Barnes & Noble and Borders, to choose from.
So what sounds good? :)

April 17th sounds good to me, my husband will be through with tax season by then. I think that somewhere in the Paseo district is a wonderful idea. There used to be a restaurant there that was great. The area would be easy to get to from the interstate for those who might travel from around the state.

Excellent! :) Are you thinking of Galileo restaurant? It is in the heart of the Paseo district and would be a great place to meet. Saturday afternoons aren't super busy (I don't think they open until 11am) and in the evenings, the music/bands normally don't start until after 9pm or so. They have a great menu too (also serves vegetarian dishes). IF this is the place where we are going to meet, I guess all that remains to be decided is when?? :)
Thanks,

Oops! SoonerAsh suggested April 17th (Sunday). Which is fine for me. I also think that putting together an email list is a good idea. It might be easier for all of us to stay in touch. Though one one us needs to check this thread regularly for new people.

You guys are going to probably want to kill me when I tell you that the 17th won't work for me (since I'm the one who originally suggested that date  ). My husband reminded me that we were going out of town that weekend for a motorcycle trip.
The next weekend (April 24th) would work great for me, but if the 17th is still the best date for the majority of you then ya'll should stick with the 17th. I will catch you guys the next time you meet here in Oklahoma.
Please forgive my confusion....Can I blame it all on the hubby??? :D

Hey guys, I wouldn't be able to make it to Oklahoma City. But I did want to let anyone close to Tulsa know that the Tulsa Artists Coalition is having its annual 5x5x5 show. Is is a show on May 5, in which a whole bunch of 5"x5" Fredrix Gallery Wrap canvases painted and donated by local artist are auctioned off for $55 each. They provide the canvases to the artists on the condition that you decorate them and return them for auction. You are donating your work and the money raised goes to support the TAC. However when your peice is sold you are sent a letter with the name and contact info of the patron, so that you can add them to your mailing list for shows. Its a great way to get you name into the art buying community and its for a great cause. Quite a few prominent Tulsa artist participate and there is always some great work to be seen. Here is the contact info below. Canvases can be picked up at the gallery Thur-Sat 6-9pm.

I goofed when I posted suggestions for the time. 11am is the begining of the lunch rush. It's going to be crowded, busy and NOISY. Sorry, my fault.
How about we kinda sorta split the difference and say 1:30pm? That, I hope, should put us past the worst of the lunch rush, and not make it quite so late in the day for folks with a long drive home.
Does 1:30pm sound like a decent compromise to everyone?

hello all!!I just joined and would love to be included in any future get togethers. However, I am unable to be there on the 17th. I am making a suggestion that those in this group that cannot make it who would like to get together, we should have an alternate meet and greet/showcase of work here in the Tulsa area. anyone else up for this? :) April doesn't work too well, but how about May?

I'm in the Tulsa area, Owasso. It would be easier to meet local for me also. Maybe some of us can start a group here too. I would also like to find someone who would like to share cost on doing shows. I'm having trouble getting started with the cost of tent. display boards etc. What shows are you doing local ? I'm not ready for Mayfest, did Octoberfest years ago that was good. Has anyone checked out the River Market? I went there last Spring and met several really nice artist, thought about giving it a try. There was two women sharing a spot that gave me the idea of going in with someone else. Also anyone done the Gilcrease show? I got a mailing from Waterworks about it, just moved and I'm not sure about date. Maybe that would be a fun outing? Linda

I'm in Muskogee. Personally I think that is a great idea. I have never done shows though. (Daycare may be a challenge) I am new to the art world and wouldn't have much to offer as I need to improve before I could sell anything :)

I've done Mayfest as far as competing in their indoor show, but never an outdoor booth rental. And I did the Gilcrease thing last year. It was really cool, and I found that prints and cards sell a lot better than actual paintings. Also, there's a show coming up at the Cherokee Heritage Museum in Tahlequah, but I'm not up for any of them this year, as I'm now going to college full time. If you do want to do a show, I have a tent and some display boards. Let me know and maybe we can work something out.
I think a local group sounds fun, and the group up here and the one in OKC could occassionally merge. Isn't there an artists group that gets together at Border's the last Wednesday of the month or something like that? Anyone been to that?

This is probably a good idea, as its so doggone far between OKC and Tulsa. I do think it would be a good idea if we all stayed in touch through this thread and through an email list, that way maybe we could all get together a couple of times a year or something. Also, exchange info on shows, fairs, ect. around the state. AND keep each other updated on when the different groups will meet, in case one of us is 'straying from homeground', and can drop in on a meeting!
Also, I guess I'm sort of de facto email list compiler for the state group. Is that okay with everyone? Someone let me know who ya'll decide is a co-ordinator for Tulsa, and I will email the list to them, they can print it out for everyone in the Tulsa group. AND keep me updated on list changes too, please.
So, who all is going to be at the OKC meeting? I need to know so I know how many copies of the list to print out.

Well, I took the liberty of putting together an email discussion list for the Tulsa people so we can get moving on this. :) Of course, it's great if the OKC people want to join, too. This way we can discuss where and when the first meetings will be.
To subscribe send an email to: TWCA-subscribe@topica.com

I have a few old things just run off in miniature from the printer for "show and tell".
I'm coming just for the fun of this, to see what other artists here do, ( I'm from the DC area. ), and to meet new people. I'm really shy, but will probably stand in the middle of Galileo's and scream : "ANYBODY HERE FROM WET CANVAS?" and from there on out they can all just think we're nuts. ;)

Well, for those of you who weren't able to make the first meeting in OKC...
We had a pretty good-sized group show up, mostly folks from outside of the OKC area. Galilio's is a really nice place, and of couse, the Paseo area is used to artists anyway... although NEXT TIME, I will try to remember to let them know we are going to be meeting there ahead of time! No problem though, it was very quiet day for them. We had the whole non-smoking room to ourselves-with a handy dandy door outside right there for those of us who smoke.

Everyone brought some of their work-most folks had their printed portfolios with them, which was really neat, so we all got to see what kind of work the others do. Also both Tamara and kjsspot brought examples of their sculture, and birds2-Bob-brought one of his wood carving pieces. All very neat work by a nice bunch of people.
All in all, it was a good 'meet and greet' first meeting. I'm hoping that the next one, those of us who want to, can bring pieces to be criquiced (sp?) by the group. I'm planning on bringing a piece or two myself. But please, no one HAS TO. Only if you WANT TO.
Also, we might plan a gallery crawl for a meeting too. The Paseo is a good area for that. So is Norman, as there are still quite a few small galleries here.
A few of us mentioned trying to alternate meetings between the OKC area and Tulsa area as well. So you folks up there, be sure to let us know WHEN and WHERE you are planning on meeting in May.
I do need to mention one thing however...
Religion and politics can both be divisive, downright explosive subjects. Please, lets none of us make the assumption that everyone in the group is "just like me", because trust me, that's not the case. So for the sake of peace and harmony, lets park these subjects at the door when you come to meetings. Including the jokes.
Have a good weekend eveybody!

I had a lovely time, Leigh, and I hope to make it to the next meeting. I'd love to bring a piece for a critique session. I'm very good at listening to anything anyone says about my work, <giggling>, I'm just not always very good at taking advice. It's so hard for me to get motivated to work in the first place; harder still to get myself to change something! :D I might die of exhaustion!!! The promise of another lunch out with such wonderful people should do the trick, though. I'm willing do do anything for that. ;)
I thoroughly enjoyed seeing everyone's great paintings, drawings, carvings, and sculptures, and was truely inspired to get back to doing more of my own artwork. Thanks guys for giving me a new reason to paint. I needed it. I also enjoyed picking everyone's brains finding out what works and doesn't work in the Oklahoma art market. It's so different here from the DC/MD./VA. area.
I was wondering if any of y'all would be interested in someday starting a gallery of our own? ( That's just a dream of mine. It's just a glimpse of my control-freak side. ) Oh, and I stopped at Border's in Norman and picked up a copy of Wildlife Art Magazine - and quite a few others as well. I sooooooooooooo wish we all lived closer to each other and could pool all of our artist resources... I know creating is a solitary spiritual act, but I for one need someone to hold my hand, so to speak, when doing all of the other things it takes to actually sell a picture. I'll admit, I'm clueless. Be patient with me. I promise to learn quickly.
Okie dokie, I'm off to drool over pictures in magazines and get ideas for translating them into things that will make me the next Robert Bateman or Bev Doolittle! ( SEE WHAT YOU STARTED, BOB?!?!? <giggling> ) <hehe> Also, if anyone is interested in an MSN Group site where we can just gab, trade secrets, and post new works, let me know. I'm the Queen of group site design. I'll just make all of y'all managers and then you can play with it and upload to your heart's content. Holler if you think it would be fun. I was thinkin' that this'a way we wouldn't have to make bunches of threads all over Wetcanvas and try and track each other down. That doesn't mean leave Wet Canvas; it would just be a way to keep in touch easier.
Faith/Aisling
By the way, if you go to my web site, you can see my paintings with much more color than the little prints I brought today.

You can get info at http://www.thepaseo.com at least I think that's the site. It is a yearly thing for about the last 28 years or so. They rent spaces along Paseo for booths. I don't know if there is any space left or not. Greg Matlock said that it is a good event with several thousand people passing through. He mentioned selling something like 18 paintings last year. I'm taking mostly my small paintings. I'm on the verge of raising my prices, but I think I will wait untill after the show. It would be nice to sell a bunch. I've been getting lots of repeat customers lately. Hope that is a continuing trend. Hope to see you there.

Greetings,
I just wanted to let everyone know that the 'Arts for All' Festival is taking place in Lawton this weekend (May 7,8,9). I did a search online and found their website:
Arts for All Festival - Lawton, OK (http://www.lawtonafa.org/Festival.htm)
I saw on the news a while ago that they have 100+ booths of food, art, crafts, etc.
A word of advice about the food: I attend an International Festival in Lawton last year and there was a yellow and brown portable trailer decorated to look German selling German food. I can't remember the name of the trailer (Der Braut Haus...maybe), but you can't miss the yellow and brown. IF they are at the Arts for All Festival, have some weinerschnitzel. It's wonderful! I've been to Germany and the lady with the trailer has authentic food.
Everyone have a great weekend,

Hi all! I'm a newbie to WC and just found this Okie thread. I live in Bixby. I have a very hectic life right now...it's all I can do to get the dishes done, so meeting right now is probably not going to work for me but I would like to keep up to date on all the email and posting info. The info on shows and such is wonderful! I want to learn!! I'm just getting back to doing art work after a 20 year hiatus to raise kids. My first child graduates in 9 days and my youngest has 2 years to go. I hope to be full time, up to my neck in artwork by the time he finishes school. Right now I'm taking classes...I've forgotten so much.
Looking forward to learning alot from you all...
I already sent PM with my info for the email list.

contact bdswagger for a list of names and to have yours added. if not, I can copy you mine but it may not be up to date.
either the speghetti warehouse or the coffee shop/OPAC gallery sounds good to me, and I live in Owasso, so it wouldn't be far.
anyone have an objection to May 22, because now is the time to bring up alternate date(s). remember the last weekend of May is a holiday, so it would have to be moved to June if 5/22 is not an option. It really doesn't matter to me - just let me know!! do we have a head count?

Well, I took the liberty of putting together an email discussion list for the Tulsa people so we can get moving on this. :) Of course, it's great if the OKC people want to join, too. This way we can discuss where and when the first meetings will be.
To subscribe send an email to: TWCA-subscribe@topica.com
And then to send a message to the group, email: TWCA@topica.com
This is the info for getting on Tulsa e-mail group, and then bdswagger has the okie list :D Linda

I cannot believe how big this thread has become! Wow! Didn't get a chance to read through everything, but I wanted to be included in a "list" of what is going on, and will do the PM thing. (I've started to do "The Artist's Way" and am beginning to feel a little more empowered.)
I'm trying to get a web site up and am working to get some art work on to art agent. I have been in Tulsa two years and would really like to find a gallery to represent me, but have no idea how to approach one, so I'm working on that too.
I saw something about a meeting in Tulsa on the 22nd, which of course, I cannot make. (Murphy's law. It's my daughter's graduation. I'm sure she won't mind if I don't go to it and go to the meeting--yeah! RRRRrright!) Last meeting, I was too scared to attend. This meeting I can't make. Any plans for a third?

Hi Carrie! Welcome to the group!
There were a few folks who were talking about getting together during the Paseo Festival in OKC over Memorial weekend, but so far, nothings been said here or to me about a possible time and place. I was the one who initially suggested May 22nd and I will not be offended in the LEAST if we move it to June 12th. I don't want to interfere with graduation or other things. Since date has come up very quickly, it seems to me that trying to rush everyone to come would be a bad idea.

I second the new date! (No graduation!) Spaghetti Warehouse sounds good, too. Yum!
Denise, "The Artists' Way" is a book by Julia Cameron. It is UNBELIEVABLY extremely helpful for people (creative/artists) willing to try it and stick with it. Some of it seems really hokey, but once you get through that and realize the validity of some of the things that she says, you find it really helpful. In the fall, they will do another group/discussion of it in one of the forums here. (I think Creativity Forum.) I am in the middle of it with a small group, but intend to do it in the fall, since I do it very haphazardly now. (My own fault--too much going on at this time of year to become involved in something like this, but I'm desperate.) It's worth considering if you are the type of artist that needs a good swift kick in the butt every know and then (or constantly--like me.)

Here in Sapulpa we have tree limbs all over the place but haven't heard of more serious damage. Lots of fires all over Tulsa and I guess houses lost their roofs. Hope to see everyone there.
As far as the storm, a lot of limbs down here in Tulsa, but what is surprising to me is the amount of entire trees down. Really nice established ones. We are so grateful that noone was hurt. From what I've been able to prove: WilTell building had serious damage with the windows, but no body was hurt. One garage roof over at Peoria and 31st was lost, a lot of trees, half-trees and major limbs down all over town. Other than that, Tulsa's doin' just fine. Glad everyone is safe. Tamara, I was thinking of you when I heard the tornados were heading for Sapulpa. Glad you're Okay.

I've been having problems with my computer connection recently, but for some reason today it's working. May have had to do with all the lines down from the storms.
Glad to hear that everyone seems to have come through the storms okay this past week. We seem to be having spring late this year.

Okay, I still haven't heard anything about a possible get together in OKC in July. Anyone have suggestions? Possible dates? I would suggest AFTER the 4th.

My name is Pat and I live in Midwest City. I just joined the Mid-Del Art Guild and the Plein Aire Painters of Central Ok.,because I will always be a hungry student of art. I have been reading a few of the past messages and noticed that a few of you aren't very familiar with the Paseo Arts District. I know a little and learning more. It is the only permanently zoned arts district in Okc and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places, built in 1929 by G.A. Nichols. I believe the first Friday of every month is the official gallery walk and open studio. My husband and I have been a couple of times and always enjoy it.
There are so many wonderful gallerys in the metro that I didn't know about until I decided to try to see all in one year. Don't think I'll make it this year. I bet there are a lot in the whole state of Ok. I have rattled on long enough. pm me or email me all of you. Looking forward to making some artsy new friends. Pat

What time in the morning? 9:30? Most of the galleries probably don't open until 10, I'm assuming. Does anyone know?
Then, where are we going for the meeting? How about Paseo Cafe? It's small, but they are the folks that are looking for artists work to hang-new show every month-and it would give folks a chance to check out the wall space. And what time for the meeting? This is so people who can't make the gallery walk can maybe show up for the meeting. I would suggest into late afternoon, so we have time to hit, oh, 8-10 galleries. Maybe. Although that's probably assuming alot!

Suggestions: We could meet at 9:30, at Cairo's Coffee Shop (?), then when we are sure everyone, that expressed a desire to meet, has arrived by suggested time of 10:30 (?), gallery walk. I will call some of the artist's I know in the Paseo to get their take on our desending upon them, since it is not the Paseo Arts District's official weekend for their open gallery/studio walk. It is usually the first Friday and Saturday of the month. (6-9pm Fri. & noon-5pm Sat.) They can give me the heads up on who would not be receptive and we can skip them. We certainly don't won't to burn any bridges. Surely, they would be accepting potential customers, but if not, and this is their time to seriously work, then I personally would not want to invade.
I would, however, still want to have our own informal, but serious art discussions similar to the old Masters. Paseo Cafe sounds great for the meeting.

I would think they would be receptive as the first weekend is the 4th. But, I wouldn't see why any gallery would turn people away on any given Saturday. A private studio is a different matter.

I PMed everyone one the list. Anyone who doesn't post to the thread is going to get an email in a couple of days. I want to make sure everyone knows, and if can make it, doesn't get left out.
I was talking about galleries only. I hadn't planed on invading someone's studio uninvited. That's not really kosher, ya know?
Meeting up from 9:30-10:30 someplace, sounds good. That will give everyone a chance to find a parking spot and walk from where ever to the meeting spot.
As soon as I hear back from a few more people, I'll call Mary and give her the heads-up about us meeting at the Paseo Cafe, later that afternoon. She's one of the owners. I'm sure she would like to know if we are going to invade enmasse. :D
Guess that's it for now.

Oh, may I join? (I don't paint, or anything, I use polymer clay only) This is marvelous. I live in Broken Arrow, and I know I've missed the first 2 or 3 meetings, but I would love to be involved in the next ones.
My name is Suzy and I am a very new sculptor, using polymer clay. I've been in two shows, one a metaphysical expo in 2003, and the other the Oklahoma Renaissance Faire in Muskogee, 2004. I will be there next year, as well. This October, I'll be at the renfaire in Stroud.
I have PMed bdswagger with my info, and would like to attend the Tulsa area meets. I could get to those in OKC rarely, life with two teenagers and a full time job and hubby......well my time is limited.
Anyway, I grew up in Norman, K thru 12, when they only had one high school in Norman. Was very active in all things theatre there. My parents, along with a group of friends, co-founded the Norman Community Playhouse. My mom was a co-founder of the Mummer Theatre in OKC, too. Loved going to the Norman Medieval Faire, was at the very first one. My, how it's grown. Anyway, married an Englishman and we've moved around a lot since then. Planted in Bixby about 13 years ago, moved to Arlington Texas for 10, then back to Broken Arrow where my kids have thrived and my hubby and I are quite content.
Look forward to seeing the group very soon! DC (suzy)

Well, pooh. If the 7/10 meeting is in OKC, I won't be able to go. Hubby gets in from Okinawa on 7/9, and I don't think he would like it if I bombed off to OKC the very next day. Sorry, Lady Rando, I would have loved to talk molds and castings with you. I will be answering your email, by the way, just haven't done so yet.
Is there a Tulsa meeting anytime soon -- or is it still in the works?

Well, since Shirley isn't sure she is going to be in town on the 10th, I'm trolling for a ride. I'm in Norman. Anyone?
I'm going to make some phone calls the next coupla days, check on times the galleries open on Sat. We MAY need to turn the day around and do Meeting/Brunch in mid-morning, followed by the Gallery Walk. Sorry folks, not good planning on my part. Anyways, I should be able to let you know for sure by this coming Thursday. PLEASE WATCH THIS THREAD FOR UP-DATES!
In the mean time, I STILL need suggestions for WHERE we need to meet up in the morning-in case we still do the Gallery walk in the morning.
Also, there are still alot of folks I haven't heard from yet. You know who you are
By the way, for anyone who thinks you HAVE to come for the whole day... that is NOT THE CASE. Come for whatever part you can. If you can come for the whole day, great. If you can only come for one part of the day, also great.

If you still need a ride I'll be glad to pick you up. Just pm me with directions.I live on the northeast side of Tinker in Midwest City, so it's a piece of cake.
Have you gone to the Paseo website? Has a map that might make it eaiser to pick a place to meet. I suggest Cairo's Coffee Shop. You know a place to sit and wait for everyone to gather and not too far from parking. www.thepaseo.com.
I am really excited about Sat. meeting everyone and seeing and talking art.

Can only think that maybe you have subscribed to the thread in a manner that sends out email notification? Don't know and I would be annoyed as well. Maybe you can filter these emails on those other two accounts you don't want to receive them on. :(
Think the Tulsa area folks might be meeting in the latter part of August. Hope we'll all get to meet up!

OKC MEETING
First off, let me appologize for taking so long to get back to ya'll on this. My (borrowed) computer is once again giving me fits.
Anyway, slight change of plans. I called the Paseo Arts Community and it appears that most of the galleries wont be open until 12 noon. Some a little earlier, but don't know which ones, as I couldn't get a list.
The point is, I suggest we have the group meeting/brunch about 10am, til 1pm, THEN do the Gallery Walk. The good news is that the Paseo is having Mid Summer Nights Dream July 9th and 10th, which means that there will be alot of the Studio Galleries open as well.
I'm going to try to get in touch with the owners/managers at Paseo Cafe today. I hopefully will be able to tell ya'll something by this evening.

I did a quick drive by last weekend to find out where The Paseo Cafe is. It is just a little southeast of Galileo. One way to get there (if coming from the South) is to go North on Walker to 28th and Paseo Dr. You will turn west (left) on to Paseo Dr. and it is on your immediate right (it is on the North side of the road). It is kind of set back a ways; it's a white building with a patio and chairs out front.

The meeting yesterday was lots of fun!! kjsspot with her daughter, afterglow with her son, and I met at The Paseo Cafe yesterday morning at 10am. The cafe had wonderful food and really good coffee. They were displaying a local artist's work, which kind of set the mood for discussing our favorite subject: art! :) We met a rather energetic window washing character and found a full drum set sitting in the bathroom. It was an interesting cafe and I look forward to returning there again. Also, the owners are looking for local artists to display their artwork.
After eating and trading wonderful information on useful websites, local art groups, and basic getting to know one another, we began our gallery walk. We didn't make it to all the galleries, but that just leaves more to visit on our next meet up!! :) afterglow and kjsspot had done wonderful research and had even talked to a couple of the Paseo galleries before me arrived.
We first visited The Paseo Studio, where Jeanene Carver and M'Lou Sorrin create beautiful southwest art and pastel landscapes and still lifes. M'Lou spoke with us at length about the Paseo Arts District and her experience in the area. She is a very talented and extremely interesting woman.
The next place we visited was Christy Myers's Sculpture Studio. She too spoke with us at length about her experiences as a sculptor and her time in Paseo. She is a very spunky, upbeat woman who clearly has a strong passion to create.
After leaving Christy's studio, we wandered up through the courtyard apartments, that have many artists' studios open to the public. The courtyard is especially beautiful with ivy, flowers, gazebo, and very friendly parakeets. We stepped into Art House Studio and Salon. They have wonderful black and white photography decorating the walls, a really cool painted floor, all around an operating salon. We all grabbed salon cards to maybe schedule appointments for some new do's! :)
The last place we visited was Kay Orr Studio and Gallery. Since Kay died two years ago, the studio and gallery has been run by her former students. Looking at the artwork you can definitely tell which students were influenced most by Kay. We had a nice conversation with one her former students and discussed some of the best places to purchase frames.
All in all, it was a very nice Saturday afternoon! I look forward to seeing afterglow and kjsspot again and meeting other Oklahoma artists in the future.
Cheers!
Ash :D

Sorry I couldn't make the OKC meeting but we had an emergancy with one of our dogs. Not too sure how she did it but she managed to tear one of her back claws. Our vet is seeing her this morning and I think he may have to remove that claw. I just hope she didn't break that toe also. :(

Well, took Sally to the vet. No broken toe, thank goodness but he did have to remove the claw. She is now wearing a pink wrapping and we have to keep that on her for the next 4 to 6 days. I guess she gets to sleep near us and not in her room. Buster, our other lab, will just mess with her foot doing the night so we'll have to keep them seperated.

Wonderful! The more the merrier. We have almost the 10 I've made reservations for, so we may have to have another table pulled up. I'm going to be bringing a few of my small sculptures, and others will be bringing samples of their art. Not quite sure if we'll be taking a gallery walk afterwards, because I don't know what's around that area, but we'll all just play it by ear.

Not sure about galleries but there's a little coffee place behind there that was a real eye opener. LOL. I use to love to go there because a lot of artsy people hung out there.
