I am officially frustrated! I know nothing about computers & would like to post some paintings in the critiques forum. The instructions tell me to upload my image to WC. I sent the pics to my hard drive & it took me a while to even find where they are stored! Once i did that, i can find no way to get them to WC other than e-mailing them. What am i missing? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Cheryl

O.K. i've gotten as far as uploading the image (although i'm not entirley sure which one! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/biggrin.gif) but then it says to go to the critique message forum, is that the same as the critiques discussion? & if so...what then? Cheryl

Go to this web page. It has some short instructions for uploading. http://www.artistnation.com/members/lofts/loenart/howtopost.html

well, i got as far as step 4 but i'm not sure what it means to 'copy the UBB code. when i press the ctrl button and the C at the same time nothing happens. So i moved on to step 5 & pushed the ctrl & V & again nothing. Man, i feel really stupid... http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/frown.gif Cheryl

Make sure you highlight the text with your cursor. When you use ctrl and c it goes on the "clipboard" nothing discernable happens but the type is on your clipboard, waiting to be pasted into the message box.
Move to the message box where you typically type in your posts for the forums and use ctrl and v. The line of type will appear but when you submit the post it will become the jpeg image.

BTW, you don't really press both keys simultaneously, press ctrl and then c or v to copy or paste.

Don't feel stupid. Save that for something more important. After you successfully upload once, it is really quite easy.

Cheryl your file must be saved before in jpg.format or similar...this could be a clue.b

Can you find the jpeg on your drive? If you can mail it to me and I'll load it for you.

Ok, do it the old fashioned way.
Highlight the code with your mouse, then,
with the arrow still on the highlighted text,
right click with your mouse, (the button you don't use very much). It should bring up a small menu, with arrow choose copy.
Then on your browser, press on the back button it it takes you back to where you uploaded your pic. Go to the link that says Critique message board, click it. Ok. Start a new topic as always, write what you want. Start a new line. Right click with mouse as before and with arrow click paste and Tada!
It should insert you ubb code. Then submit. It should work. Hope it helps.

Hi Cheryl - Don't feel bad..I'm the same way, that is why I have not used the Artistnation area to put up a small gallery there. I am happy that at LEAST I was able to figure out the image uploads and posts. (whew!!!)
But, even these new enhancements..well, lets just say I need some practice. Michael

Michael (Loen) - thanks so much for your step by step tutorial! It's splendid! If you don't mind, I'd like to your page directly into the main critique discussion page, as well as post it as an announcement in the critique forum.
Thanks!
Scott

No problem. I noticed a lot of people were having the same difficulties. It is really only a reiteration of the intructions on the site. I just think its hard to make the connection between the WetCanvas Critique Center and the forums.

Gadzooks,
I'm pretty good with computers, but I guess I'm totally scanner illiterate!

GADZOOKS Tammy? Gadzooks? That's got to be my word for the day today. I shall see how many times i can squeeze it into conversations today! http://www.wetcanvas.com/ubb/smile.gif Cheryl
Gadzooks,
That is a great word.
With your scanner, set it to 70 or 100 dpi(dots per inch) before scanning, this is ample for webpages. Then save as Jpg, resize the image, 400 X 400 or smaller is ideal, then it will load quicker,

Did I say "Gadzooks"?? Ekkkkk What's gotten into me? I've never said that word before. I don't use expletives in daily life, BUT I don't use words like that either! (ummmmm, must be something about this site that is transforming me into an Artist. ummmmm. Do artists use that word? I wonder????hummmm.)
Anyway,
Thanks Rod for the scanner info. That should help too.

optimal web viewing for images is 72dpi. If you scan your images at 300 dpi however, and then reduce them to 72dpi in photoshop or whatever image editing software you are using, they will look a lot better.
Be sure your image is RGB mode (not cmyk) also, since RGB is the only mode that will work on the internet.
