I couldnt begin to tell ya much anything about hair, 99.99% of my characters are bald. :)
However I have a friend that shows alot of her work here. (http://www.renderosity.com/gallery.ez?ByArtist=Yes&Artist=Rhiannon) I know she got Painter almost a year ago. She does phenominal work, and the hair on her women is remarkable!
Here's an easy tutorial for painting very natural looking hair,by mixing Two Colors on a Brush, using Painter 6 or 7..

I found it very helpful, i hope it helps you too.

Hi,
I know there are so many different ways to do hair, it isn't even funny, lol!!.... but something I have tried and it works well for me is after I have laid down my color strokes for the body of the hair, I use the palette knifes to pull the various colors through and then add highlights as needed, or shading. Also use the sublte palette knife so it's not so hard looking. Light blending wth the course or oily blenders, here and there.
Hope that helps:)
