Hello

This is the latest drawing that I've just completed. I took the photo from the Reference Library and its titled 'Raindrops on Leaves' by TeAnne. I thought it such a lovely photo that I just had to try and draw it. I used my trusty 2b mechanical pencil and extra smooth bristol board and the drawing measures 10.5 x 4.5 ins. I'm not sure how long it took.......all I know, its taken the longest time yet.........

holy moly!!!, the 2nd image is a drawing? I would have sworn it was a B&W photo... I would have never guessed the subject matter would have been interesting enough to draw either... extremely nice... gonna do more?

Not interesting? I took the photo for the purpose of the waterdrops for the library.

Jane -- What an amazing follow-up to the Loch at Sunset. Without seeing a name in the corner, I, too, would have thought that this was a photo. In very short time, you've given us a panoramic view and now a closeup. Can't wait to see what's next. Nature obviously brings out the best in you, and, working with such inspiring photos, you bring out the best in nature.

Now that's just showing off! Nobody should have that good an eye let alone two of them! What an amazing reproduction. It also looks to be EXACTLY the same size as the reference photo--how long did it take you to do this, again? Didi you use a grid or is this (god, I hope not) a freehand drawing. Amazing. You must have pulled that trusty 2B mechanical out of a stone in England!

Sorry TeAnne, I didn't mean anything by my comment. I have no composition
capabilities so my opinion would naturally be lacking. I guess I didn't make my self clear, the water on the leaves & droplets
in drawing are actually better than in the picture.... There is more focus on them.... which is one reason I like the drawing so well....
I lose the droplets among the green (maybe because I like green so much my eyes go there most of the time)

Gosh! I wasn't expecting such a glowing response........

TeAnne - thanks for allowing your photo to be shared and I'm really pleased you like the drawing :D

John - cheers, couldn't get a nicer compliment than that :) I would like to do a series of 4 if only I could get similar images........waterdrops on leaves or twigs. (I did go into my backgarden and spray water on some bushes......blush........but had no joy. Its not as easy as it looks to get images like that)

Roslyn - thank you again. Unsure at the moment what to draw next  Still hunting the ref library for inspiration - any suggestions or images welcome..... ;)

Cheryl - thank you. I loved your picture of the child in the yellow jacket....so cute!

Marta - Och, what lovely comments.....

JayD - lol....cheers for that! Yep, its the same size - I liked the non-standard size of the pic...makes it a bit more interesting in my humble opinion. It took, I think, roughly 20 to 25 hrs and its freehand. :D

Ladydixon - thank you and look forward to you posting some of your work.

John - :)

hi jane

this is beautiful, just beautiful   - when i saw that you'd posted another i opened it up and did what everyone else probably did- scrolled done then realised the black and white was the drawing - your talent is growing with each piece.

i have a suggestion for the next :- in the image library is a picture of a small frozen waterfall - its already in black and white so i don't know if that will hinder your process - i shall go searching for it now to see who took the picture and where you can find it if thats any help.

can't wait for the next one

-sorry about that - its practically all ice, but i found this one instead - any use?

No probs JohnK, I didn't mean to be so petty, I was a bit hormonal this morning. I agree, the drawing of the droplets really pop. I love it.
PS, nice to meet you JohnK ~^..^~

Sorry folks--I am still honking over that marvelous leafy, raindrops image--I went back and closely and I mean CLOSELY re-examined the image and in some places--a large leaf, for example, as the image faces you in the lower left side looks like it was worked with pencil--but THAT is what is neat about this image--it is the raindrops which distract from all of that--if you had chintzed on the drawing of the raindrops--just short-cutted or something --the image would have been lost or dimimished in its impact. Instead, the water droplets help magnify the illusion. I am not going to even get started on the boat image except to say that is the place where I want to be (remember the Night Gallery episode?). At this point, I am sucking on my wife's inhaler trying to recover from the utter awe I now have of your abilities. Thanks! :D

Oh yeah--you're not kidding--I am ready to give up drawing and move into my wife's rubberstamping studio--go live within a preprinted habitat. No, seriously--this is all very inspirational as well as just plain astounding.

I have to admit...I would not have given the photo a second glance. However, now I will look at things like this in a different light.
Your drawing is absolutely stunning. JayD hit the nail on the head about the drops. This makes me wanna draw some nature

Nuno, Metrini, Celia, Paul, TeAnne, JohnK, Marilyn h, Smokindevil, Linda and Dave - I just want to say a massive thank you for all the wonderful comments.....what a great place this is for the old confidence booster!!!!! :D

JayD - lol.....started to feel a bit nervous with the close examination, wondering what you were going to uncover - can breathe a sigh of relief now!!! What's this mysterious boat thingy all about....I'm intrigued!!

Tracy - thanks for taking the trouble....I've saved the boat image and will definately think about that one. I'm working on a seaside village scene at the moment, so that'll keep me busy for a while. (Pist.....whats the story with JayD and the boat?? - I won't tell anyone!!! ;) )

Thank you all again

The night gallery reference refers to the episode where the Nazi war criminal wishes himself to a better life--his wish is to be able to go inside a peaceful painting of a man in a boat fishing. Unfortunately for him, in true Night Gallery fashion the museum replaced the painting and put up a new one of a crucifixion unbeknownst to the Nazi. He was trying to escape his hunters and in a last bid effort managed to wish himself into the painting--the wrong painting.

The other boat thing is that "Mr. Observant" here, in an ironical twist, thought the boat was yet another of those photorealistic pencil doodles that you folks seem to excel at--FOOLISH ME!!!

That is awesome, very realistic looking. Looks like you took a very careful time with the shading on the leaves. It paid off.
