My latest c p work. The only thing I own in the still life set-up is the candle! The statue I saw at my sister's place months ago and asked if I could borrow it for a still life. She asked the other day for it back:) so thought I had better get on and do what I was going to do.
I used black paper (mi-tientes) but I have covered it all, the darks have tuscan red and indigo blue in them. Size 13 x 10 inches, prismacolour pencils.
Feel free to comment/critique.

thank you Earlene:)
It's a pity that the richness of the background doesn't show up in the scanning:(

Knew you could do it, way to go :D  :D

Being a candle lover myself, the only thing I think is that the side with the drippies on it should be a little lower than the other side, or have some sort of hole in that side to allow the candle to drip like that. Or maybe the other side needs to be a tad taller. LOL. I think the effects of the lighting on this piece are just awesome and you've nailed it spot on!

Love looking at your work, can't wait to see the next one!!!

Wow! I am impressed, this is so beautiful:) And a still life, at that! I've only done a couple of still lifes (much harder than working with photos, IMO) but they don't usually work out too well with a couple of little kids running around LOL! They can't keep their tiny hands off anything :D

How creative to light the subject with a candle and include the candle in the drawing! And, you did such a fine job. I bet you had a great time on this one! Are you going to draw more candle-lit subjects? I really, really hope so because I think it is not only striking in its colors, but would also be popular enough to sell several pieces. Keep going! Let your pencils go mad with delight upon their black paper playground!

:D

Yogi, thank you:) Oh yes, I did love doing it, and now every time I look at it, it reminds me to spend more time sitting reflectively too. I find it very calming. I read a post on symbolism in the Still Life forum by SanDL and I hadn't thought about it before then.

My still-life set-up that has been waiting for months for me to do (I have already done a preliminary graphite drawing) does involve another candle:) I thought about doing it in pastel, but now that I have discovered coloured pencil I just may do it in that.

MissMouse - thank you again:) Have sent you another pm.

Hi Lulu,
The colours are wonderful. I especially like the soft lighting due to the candle... You have drawn it well, it looks so relaxing sitting there by the candle light... makes you feel so calm.. you could just fall asleep :D
