I've been an artist for a while and an art teacher also. I Generally paint in watercolor. But have been under the impression that oil and cats don't mix. I would however like to start painting in oils or trying to. I was wondering what the oil artists would recomend to get started.(besides getting rid of the cats) any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to the oil forum Mkent41616!! :)
I always recommend a class to start out with but if that's not something you can do.......you can get a limited palette of oil paints, some hog bristle brushes, odorless mineral spirits, canvas or canvas pads ( many here use masonite wood panel covered with gesso or canvas) & work with mixing your colors to see what they do.
Be sure to paint in a well ventilated area & keep your turps covered when not in use (just because they take the odor out doesn't mean they can't be harmful)
There is a lot of good information in the search engines and be sure to check the Hall of Fame at the top of this page.

Try to clear your mind and forget about art. You can dive right in because nobody minds.
