Zip Files

I just can't seem to get the hang of the zip uploading thingy :( Help pweeeease?

I will run a test run on the Zip to see what's going on, but it will probably be tomorrow when I look at it. As I said earlier, I haven't had a chance to work with the zip feature yet.

I have ran a test zip thru the system, and it is coming up as well "No files found" after the upload was complete. They do not appear to be in the database at all.

It did take quite a while before the reply came up (for the 3 files I'd zipped, over 5 minutes to respond) so I am unsure if this is a library issue, or still a site issue.

I will ask Scott and see what I can figure out!

I just tested it again, seems to work.

1) Zip up a bunch of images (make sure they are images, though!)
2) Upload the zip file
3) The system unzips it, and presents you with a series of screens (depending on how many images were in the zip file), where you can put in keywords, titles, etc.

I just redid one as well, and recognized where my error was:

I wasn't making sure the files that I was zipping were within the pixel limit guidelines of the library.

My files were over the 2500 x 2500 pixel limit in the library, and as a result, they wouldn't upload. Each file in the zip must remain within the limits of the library.

Since it was a much larger file size than what I am used to uploading (even being zipped, it's still larger than one normal upload) it did take a bit of patience for them to go thru. I don't do a lot of zipping and sending, so I am unsure how it compares to similar zips.

Once the files unzip, it will bring you to a nice screen where you can fill out all your information at once. It's a really great feature!

My guess then is to check your individual files and make sure they fall within the parameters of the library.

I'm trying to upload 10 as choice indicates. I get no thumbnails and still not uploading. Still getting the same old msg. :mad:

I found this Some digital cameras and scanners can store images in uncompressed mode - don't do this, though. These types of images can be several megabytes in size (each!). 250-500K is a good rule-of-thumb in terms of size for your images, but if they are bigger, oh well, upload 'em anyway. :)

Okay, I finally did it. It WAS in the megabyte thingy in the zip. So I had to reduce the size of some of the pics and OMG! They're not going to be worth using as a ref for a painting. Too small! YUK!
Hardly worth it :(

Te, I resize all my pics to 72dpi, and about 1600x1200 pixels, usually they come out about 600kb depending on the image quality I choose. I find this size plenty big enough to work from, with excellent detail. Although I don't print the pictures, I work from the computer screen.

I have printed photo quality images from this size, though, so it should be fine?

With that one? Too right I am :) Thanks for the tip. So if I do 72dpi on my ebay picks, will they load faster?

YES! :D I even cut the quality of my ebay pics down to about 6, and make them 600x400 pixels max. They usually turn out about 60kb max.

Te, they both seemed fast to me! I am on broadband, though, and have seen the auctions before (might have the images cached somewhere) - could be worth asking others :)

There is a 2MB limit on zipped files for the library. It is stated on the page where you go to upload.

Zipped files in excess of that are not allowed.

I can imagine with 10 files of 1600x1200 that were at a higher resolution than 72dpi exceeded this 2MB limit.

This isn't a new limit either, it's said 2MB limits for zip files for a long long time now. It just hasn't been used by anyone for the system to enforce it.

The limit of 2500x2500 pixels per picture isn't new, that's been that way for a long time now.

Sigh...the bulk uploader isn't really very "bulk" at this rate. I uploaded using it tonight, but can only upload 4 pics at a time w/ the 2MB limit....and it took forever, even on my cable modem. I am not sure that it is any faster than doing them one at a time. I also miss that the new format does not give the option to use previous selected keyword lists,etc. for use on multiple pictures that are similar and could use the same keywords. Oh well, guess there is no way to make it fast and have good quality, so I won't complain (too much)...I just had hoped to be able to upload 20-30 pics at a time, not just 4.
