This is a shirt I did for a Christmas present. The hardest part with this was the pleat that runs down the middle of the shirt. Createx paint on dress shirt.

Thank you all for the kind comments. The pleat is painted on the underside as well to match the upper side. This was done so that anyway the shirt fell (more important towards the bottom of the shirt) the image would appear correct.

Penny, I love how you textured the fur! You obviously freehanded each hair! How long did that take you? Did you have problems keeping the paint flowing through you AB? What type of board or mount did you use to hold the tee? How tight do you stretch it? Did you pre-iron the pleat before you started and by what method did you hold it from side to side as you painted?

I just love this Tee, are you planning to add a Tee WIP to your already busy schedule?

How long did that take you?
Life size (or close) portraits like this tend to take me approx. 6 hours. I paint multiple layers base, highlights/shadow, fur, color, highlights/shadow, fur.....

Did you have problems keeping the paint flowing through you AB?
I use createx on textile and I heat my house with wood so I put a pan of water on the woodstove, soak a mascara brush in cleaner, and add flow medium as needed when painting. Createx IMO is the very essence of tip dry so I just prepare myself for the inevitable. Createx is also the only textile paint that is a true opaque. I'm not sure if badger paints can be used with textile. Any one else know?

What type of board or mount did you use to hold the tee?
What ever works. I have been using an old laminated shelf that came with our entertainment system that we never used. :cat: It's 1" thick particle board.

How tight do you stretch it?
I don't stretch it. It's a button down dress shirt (cotton) and doesn't have much stretch value anyway.

Did you pre-iron the pleat before you started and by what method did you hold it from side to side as you painted?
I pre-wash the shirt, double rinse, no softener. Iron, steam only. I tape the sleeves and excess sides to the back.

I just love this Tee, are you planning to add a Tee WIP to your already busy schedule?

Thank you very much. I only do textile for friends and family, my process, technique and relative air-pressures are the same whether it be canvas, textile or automotive. Busy or not any excuse to paint is a good one and I would be more than happy to do something like this as a wip. Would it be OK for me to do one on illustration board instead?

Beautiful job on the wolf.. very very well done. I'm by no means a "professional" T-shirt artist, but I used createx exclusively until someone recommended AquaFlow Silk Black and their Opaque white for textiles. For colors you can't beat the createx, but for B&W I'd never go back. Especially the white... half the dry tip problems and the white covers much better. In my opinion they both just seem to flow much better than the createx B&W. As an added bonus they smell really good like fruit and coconut! I tried the AquaFlow colors and although they smelled wonderful, didn't spray like the createx colors do. Just my 2 cents but maybe some others have tried AquaFlow B&W and have opinions?

Penny - I can't wait to see a WIP from you on this Tee technique. If you think illustration board will act like a Tee, then that will do nicely! By the way, you know I'm your FRIEND don't you? LOL!!
I have only done one Tee. It was a Tiger I did as a present for my ex .................she must have liked it because it was the only artwork that I did for her that she kept! I hope all of the colors run and fade! LOL!! Which they might! I used Liquitex jar colors! I did heat-set them!

Marc - Thanks for the tip! I struggle with whites! I will try the AquaFlow!

Marc,

I too will have to get some aquaflow.

Sam,
How 'bout a do a husky shirt for your chipmunk? Think Chip would like it? :D

To simplify and not cross thread ourselves to death, for the time being lets put wip requests in the "articles I'd like to see" thread

Just 'cause this forum is new and I think that direction for this new year and forum will be a good thing. ;)

Thanks Alan,
as with every painting, there are mistakes that were made, things I would change, but this is how we know what to change for the next go-round.
