Well....I hesitate really to share this one due to the gloss varnish/medium I put over as a final really did not allow a good photo to be taken, some glare showed up inevitably somewhere.
Then in subdued indoor light, the colors did not translate well. This is an 8" x 10" and is from a bridge near our UP Michigan camp. I really found myself moved emotionally to the setting sun, and the rich greens and blue-greens of the shadows. -Larry

Beautiful Larry.
I am led into your painting by the reflection on the water.
Like a pathway.....I guess I walked on water!

LOL! I'd have to agree! But to be perfectly honest with you Larry, this is not the frame that i would use. I feel that it distracts me and is a bit too big and too gold. Personally i would go with a simpler frame.

Wow I like this!!!!!!!! The splash of light in the reflection is great. Nothing nicer than looking over a body of water.

Awesome Painting! I like how you have done the water and the reflections. I also like how you`ve done the trees and the colours you have used.

Thanks Cheryl....but, hey....that's funny on the frame size because that's just part of the frame...the frame is actually about 4" wide! You're just seeing about half of it here! Wide frames are in here...and especially on smaller paintings. The feeling is it is eloquent. That or smaller width frames with quite large linen mats.
I use a mix of frames, woods, etc., but the "classic" frame for plein airs (and especially pleir air organizations) is the gold frame.
I like how gold does however pull out the warm colors though. Everyone seems to like something different.
thanks everyone for taking time to look, and to comment!

Wonderful painting Larry! I love the reflections in the water and the use of blue in the shadows! Nice abstract shapes!
I frame my plein air paintings in gold as well, and l/2 the people like them and l/2 the people don't. I tell them that they can always reframe it if they want to!:p As an artist, I am soooo uninterested in the framing! I'm even thinking about gallery stretched canvas to avoid the issue all together!

I put what I think is a complimentary decent looking frame on the work, and yes...if they want a different one, I agree....they can opt to do that.
I know though in the plein air circles, and Diane would agree, conversation...shows...etc., that many artists fork out big bucks on the best gold frames.
The most I spent on a frame once for a large painting of mine was $600...and THAT was at my discounted price from the framer who did a lot of work of mine. That nuts or what???
What I'm wondering/anticipating is that some shows might not lean toward having you back if you don't have great frames on your work.
