View Full Version : Painting metallic colors
Hi! This is a terrific forum. Hope someone can help me. I'm a beginner and seem to have bitten off more than I can chew. How on earth do I use watercolor paints to capture the beautiful look of polished brass so that it looks real? Can't seem to get the right golden shade for the sparkle. Thanks in advance.

This is easier said than done--you have to stop thinking of it as shiny metal and paint the colors that you actually see. In other words, it's not brass--it's orange, yellow, red, green. Easy to say.........

The brass often carries the reflection of the colours around it from the light that is allowing you to see it.perhaps think of firelight shining on brass,A deep reddy yellow with yellow or orage highlights?.
