Clear some room on the HD, it's a big download! :D

Best new feature for me? Has to be the enhanced image browser... what a joy!

Does it work with Windows 98, I had heard that it will only be compatable with XP or better?

Hmmm, you like the CS Image Browser, eh?
Could you do this little test for me and tell me what you see, please.
1. Start Photoshop CS
2. Start the Image Browser, point it at a folder with a few hundred images and wait (far too long, IMHO) for it to thumbnail them all.
3. Start the Windows Task Manager, under options set it to 'always on top'.
4. Go to the performance tab, CPU usage should be a couple of percent max, yes?
5. Minimise, but don't close, the Image Browser. What CPU usage do you see?
6. Wait a while. Does it ever decrease?
7. Maximise the Image Browser. What CPU usage do you see?
8. What version of windows are you running?
TIA

Sorry Mike, I have no idea what you just asked me to do. I'm running it on a dual 2GHz G5 mac with 1.5 gigs of ram. Things do happen kinda fast... but I'm getting used to it.

LOL... yeah, lucky me... it's an early 40th b-day gift. I guess it's meant to soften the blow...
Ok... second favorite feature? The shadow/highlight adjustment... hehehe... I hope we can agree on that one!
Third favorite feature? The HUGE filter preview/mixer window.

The shadow/highlight is very good for beginners. Once you've mastered curves though, you'll always want the extra control they give.
The filter browser is good if you don't know what filters you have built into photoshop or where they are. Another feature that looks nice at first glance but probably won't get used very often. But I haven't spent much time with it so far. Perhaps it will grow on me :)
I find the new live histogram window really useful and have it constantly on.

Taz, if you dig a little deeper, I think you'll find the S/H is quite different than curves. I see evidence of the guassian blur step in contrast masking going on when I use it. ;)

*sigh*
I'm in love.
even on my system with only 256mb of ram - this version of photoshop is FAST.
faster than elements even - and thats a scaled down version!
well, i'm off to save some pennies.
