View Full Version : December Challenge!! Dead line Dec 31st!!

Here's a challenge with a new twist!

Here's my idea.... I've randomly picked some colors from the Moretti palette. If you don't have these colors or don't work with Moretti, then pick something that is close. You must pick 3 or more colors for the next challenge.

Now make a set of beads or a focal. Your inturpetation, what ever you come up with.....

Here are your colors:

Pastel Periwinkle
Transparent Dk Blue (sapphire)
Pastel Grey (light or dark)
Transparent Teal

You must use all of these colors.

The first person to post a pic gets to pick the next set of colors. How about set the challenges for 2 weeks instead of one... that way everybody will have time to get them in. Since Christmas day is two weeks from today, let's put this one until Dec 31st.

This is a chance to put colors together that you wouldn't normally use together. Or to broaden your own color palette. You also don't know what colors will be chosen for the next challenge so you will have to wait to see what is posted.

Have fun!! I will be doing mine in a day or so.

Count me in. But we'll see how quickly I can get to it. If all goes well tonight and tomorrow duing the day I'll be DONE with homework for the semester. (All good study vibes accepted to speed things up) And that means tomorrow night will be the first time in two weeks I'll get to torch, with the exception of one evening whipping out some red and greens to wear to the open house at work. Not quality, but impressive to those who didn't know what to look for, lol!

This weekend is for making gifts for the ladies at work, our party is Monday night. And then, LOOK OUT! I'll be a torching maniac!!

I'm in, though I probably won't be able to get to the torch until the weekend. :(

If I can get to a torch anytime in the neat future, I'm in... (But somehow I'm seeing very cold sheep.... With a potential bad pun...Why does it have to be sheep?)

Just these colors or can we add silver or sis? Can't wait to make one, these are my favorite colors. I just got hooked on greys! Sheila

...another question....do we need to use every color in each bead...or make sure the set has all colors used????

RobbinA
12-13-2003, 03:30 PM
Nothing can be added except those colors. If the next person adds silver or sis in it then they can be added.

You can make a set with those colors, they don't have to be on each bead... but if you do a focal then yes all colors on one bead.

I plan on doing mine tomorrow... hopefully.

Can someone maybe match those colors up with their numbers so some of the new people (like me) can make sure they are using the right ones?

Boy am I glad I ordered the grays last time around!

Thank you thank you!

Well, here is what I came up with.

http://www.wetcanvas.com/Community/images/16-Dec-2003/24464-1216beads.JPG

The one on the left is disqualified because at the last second I couldn't help but plunge it into some white pixie dust.

However, the one on the right is totally within the guidelines. LOL

The dark streaks in the left one came from mixing dark grey with periwinkle. About 80% grey to 20% periwinkle. Went much darker than I thought it would.

The one on the right is a dark gray base with periwinkle staggered dots. The ones around the belly were poked then dotted with dark teal. The outer periwinkle dots were dotted with the Dk. Blue.

Simple, but I like the color combo much more than I thought I would! Thanks for helping me see the potential in stepping off my normal color ways.

I forgot to post .. I'm in!

I have candlesticks to make for some Chrissy gifts, so I used the challenge colors to make beads for my candlesticks. Holy cow, those sticks take a lot of beads!

I've got some made, have to anneal them tonight, so hopefully I'll be showing mine tomorrow.

Thought it was about time I participated in a challenge. I don't use Moretti, so choosing similar colours was a challenge in itself! I used Bullseye sheet glass. I'm showing the back and front, so forgive me if I don't put both in the same post.
Jennifer and Mary, your beads are great!

I was checking in tonight thinking I was feeling really challenged in the color selection department. I was even going to start a thread asking for some suggestions. Thank You Robbin!! I will make some tomorrow. What fun!

Great beads so far everyone!!

OH, but Jennifer... maybe you have invented a 'New' thing. Instead of being something very scary looking (you know, also kind of intimidating)... it is very beautiful instead! ;)

Sorry, Jen...the first time I saw a teacup...but not anymore.... it's like one of those optical illusions that you don't get at first...once you know that you are supposed to see something different, you can't stop seeing it. ha ha :D You've taken bead porn to a whole new level!!!

Everyone's beads are wonderful. Here's mine, I made a frit of the blue and teal transparents , equal amounts, and added a small amount of periwinkle to the frit and ground it up more. Then I used a light grey bead and swirled it in the frit mixture , melted it in, and dipped in frit again and let the fire move the colors around, and made a seashell. The dark blue transparent really dominated the frit mix. Sheila

Only nine challengers? Come on guys, there is still a day left. I think this was a great challenge and am looking forward to see what the next set of colors are. And the drum roll, the winner, ( in my opinion), is Trishki. I never thought to make a whole set of beads. Nice job from everyone and lots of ideas.   :)
