Hi Landscapers:
I finished Marilyn's gift this morning. Yeah!!!! Worked on the sky this afternoon. Wow, there is a lot of sky on a full sheet. I was having some difficultly with the wash doing it up side down, couldn't really get the feel of the sky. Then I remembered that this Fiday is Good Friday and I am not sure if the post office works Easter Monday. I don't want it lying about over a long weekend so I may leave it until Tuesday. I will check with my post office guy.
Marilyn I will let you know as soon as it is on its way.
Cheers,
Gail
Gail,
I peeked to see what you did--  You done good kid
Why would you worry about the sky - it looks great. As I said before if you want to wait till after Easter that is fine with me to send it on.
I have to color Easter eggs for the grandchildren to hunt and cook Easter dinner so I'm glad not to have it here with eight busy little hands hanging around- not to mention that my grandaughter age 6 loves to do art work and always has a pencil, colored pen or brush in her hand each and everyday.
She does good critiques also-like "grammy why don't you clean your art room". LOL :D
Enjoy Easter one and all

Hi Landscapers:
Breathing a HUGE sigh of relief. :) I have completed my section and I did not spill anything on it, the dogs didn't eat it, and I was really, really nervous but it is now rolled up and ready to head south of the border, again, to Marilyn.
Gambette Marilyn. :)
I won't post it until Tuesday ( because of the holiday weekend) and it may take about 10 days or more to reach you and then again  maybe just 3 or 4. Who knows with Canada Post.
Cheers,
Gail

Ganbatte Marilyn! :)
I wonder if you will miss it as much as I did after I mailed it off. I was like a mother hen protecting it the whole time it was at my house...LOL :)

hi Patty: Thanks for your encouraging comments. I had it taped to the gator board in the spare bedroom with the door closed (away from curious, licking dogs) for almost two weeks while we were re decorating.
I will again breathe a sigh of relief when Marilyn lets me know it has arrived safe and sound in New York state.
Cheers,
Gail

Fantastic work os far Builders :D
Andy.....
A man of few words....thanks.
Looking forward to seeing it finished, but also following the different ways each person will approach their sections.
I will approach my section with fear and trepidation........... if Lauren is doing a building and Iris is doing a building...... that leaves a streetscape, a sky and a cityscape for first Andy then Me then finally Sylvia..........
........Heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeelp !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im hopeless at skies, no good at streets, positively dreadful at cars and useless at roofs.
My conclusion is that it is definitely too early to plan to auction this ......... this..............Albatross.......................
Anyone want to paint my bit so I dont ruin it
Aha............had a better idea. I can paint one paving stone or one roof or a white cloud and Sylvia can finish the picture :D

HA! HA! HA! HA!, JayTee—Believe me, you'all DO NOT want ME to paint people! There is a very good reason that none of my paintings have people—whenever I try to put them in, they turn out looking really, really weird and ruining the painting. I don't care what section I have left when it gets to me—except the streetscape. Please, please, please, someone ahead of me add the people (I don't want to be responsible for what happens if I have to paint people). :(

I have just been reading how to get perspective in/with people..
draw the head, then draw 7 same sized heads uner the first one and you hve it..
I was reading this from Donald Jusko..
He says:-\\If you like to draw and paint figures he has a great shortcut for drawing the adult male/female/
This is the basics for the figure based on 8 heads high..
In short you use 1/4 of a head for the neck, under the real head and use it for the shoulder line.
Half a body is 4 heads from the ground, thats 1/4 head over the space between the legs. This "centre is the bending line.
That's it..
Thank you Donald..;)

Oh ....Good Point JT....Is there something that you Builders...(other than JT and Sylvia don't love to paint people) really don't want to be left with???
As I look at it ...I think that whoever does the sky will have to go after "band of building tops" behind the buildings...And the band of building tops really should come after the buildings are done (there are 3 buildings left to be done) I haven't put brush to paper yet...I can do the foreground if everyone else is cringing....There are 6 of us left...right?
Me, Iris, JT, Andy, Sylvia, and Marqui? (Not neceesarily in that order :) )

Hey Everyone!
I've received the painting from Lauren!
It looks so much greater in person than on the computer screen!
I've unrolled it and am going to let it rest for a couple of days... :) She also included a little sample of the paper so that I can play around a bit... ;D
Now, for the hard part--deciding WHAT to paint... so many choices... the pressure is on! :D
Looks like somewhere along the way a little bit of damage has occured on the right edge, but no worry, I will be as careful as possible!
Funny thing, when talking to Lauren last night, we discovered that we are both alumni from the same university! Small world, isn't it?
Cannot wait to plot out my section in the next few days...will let everyone know my progress, in case we have enough time to send it out and back again before my show on May 2nd....
In the meantime I will let the painting lead me where it will... :-)

Thanks Alex:
I went searching the net for desert sky photos and sort of used two different ones as the reference. From what I read the storm clouds pass over quickly and then back to blue skies again.
BTW, The Robin is at the post office and will be flying back to the US tomorrow.

Hey Builders,
Jijo was wondering if our painting could hit a couple of other people before my show on May 2nd.
I will try to paint my portion in the next few days. I won't mind it going and coming back to me, as long as I can have it in my hands by April 27th or 28th (enough time for my gallery to frame it properly before my show.
Will this work for any of the remaining artists? Please let me know ASAP... if you think it's too rushed, I won't pass it on until mid May, but that's almost a month and we don't want to run out of steam.

Visions from Iris: Works of Art by Iris Shen-Van Buren
Exhibition Dates: May 2 - May 31, 2004
Absolute Gallery
307 E. Grand River Ave., Lansing, Michigan, Ph. (517) 482-8845
Artist's Opening Reception
Sunday, May 2, 2004 ~ 12 p.m. - 5 p.m.
Light refreshments will be served. In addition, there will also be a gallery walk at other local galleries in Old Town Lansing on the same day. Call for specific directions to the Absolute Gallery or PM Iris on Wetcanvas at: pinkbubelz for additional information.
The Absolute Gallery is located in "Old Town Lansing", a few miles West of Michigan State University Campus and on the North Side of Grand River. It is on the Corner of Grand River and Turner St. and Across from the Brenke Fish Ladder.
About the Artist:
Iris Shen-Van Buren is a graduate of Michigan State University. With a B.A, Studio Arts (1990), as well as a B.F.A., Studio Arts (1991), Iris has participated in numerous art fairs and exhibits over the past 14 years, including exhibits in St. Joseph, East Lansing, Lansing, Southfield, Grosse Pointe, Interlochen and Detroit, Michigan. In recent months, she has also been involved in several international art exchanges with artists from the U.S., Australia, Europe, South America and Asia via the online artist community of www.wetcanvas.com.
The exhibit at the Absolute Gallery is her first one-woman solo exhibit of her works of art. Works of art include oil paintings, drawings, Gocco prints, photographs, digital works, sculptures and mixed media works. Also to be included will be a collaborative watercolor, which will be circulated through several countries and sold online after its completion by WetCanvas artists.
Artist Statement:
"As an artist, I believe that it is important to bring a positive energy to my audience. Too much of this world has been focused on negatives; crime, war, abuse, hatred, anger, poverty and depression. I chose to focus my energy in another direction--that of an uplifting nature, much like the motto of my home State of Michigan, "Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice (If you seek a pleasant peninsula, look about you)." I hope to find the spark of optimism within the drab and dreary humdrum of the city and often use vibrant colors to visually excite my viewer. It is my hope that my audience can find a way to lift up their moods and feelings from whatever image I chose to present to them." ~ Iris Shen-Van Buren

ArticRose sent me the interpretive gift of the landscaper that she painted! I can hardly wait until you all get to see it! She had some great ideas, and they all worked!
I told Anita (ArcticRose) that if landscapes could be this interesting, I might turn into a landscape painter. But I think it helps to paint on paper larger than 8X10.

I'm looking forward to seeing the gift paintings when the large Robins are all finished. It would be fun to see them now, but I think it would influence the later painters too much so it is good to wait.
All three Robins are looking great so far. Good work and congratulations to all the artists who have finished their parts already.
I need to start thinking about my interpretive gift painting of the cityscape. Wonder if I can fit one on a postcard size support???? That is what I've been working on lately for the postcard project. Just kidding, Alex, just kidding!!!! ;)

ArcticRose actually sent me two paintings...one is the large interpretive gift; the other is the practice picture she did of the little rabbit. It's about post card size (or maybe a little larger). So maybe your section of the cityscape but only your section, could be done on a postcard. But I think you'd need a magnifying glass to get the whole city on it. :D

Oh Char, take your time! I'm a bit laid up. The side door from the garage won a tug of war with the wind and slammed my index finger on my right hand quite badly - 8 stitches and new dressings every 2 days - with the possibility of surgery ( there appears to be a minute foreign body in the wound on the Xray). This happened on Sunday and I haven't tried painting yet. Writing is somewhat painful ... so we will see. If the surgery doesn't happen I should be okay.
Besides ... you are going to need a LONG time to do my gift, aren't you?? :D

Hey Landscapers! Guess what arrived today! Yep!
It's here and hand delivered by my friendly postman. Yea!   And, the sun is shining the daffs are blooming, the weather is warm today it is opportunity knocking. Too bad I can't start today!
Painting fine, tube fine although getting lots of use. Maybe I'll get a new one for Mary Smith.
Gail --- You are the sweetest! I love your painting to me and the notecard.
Thank you so very much! :D :D :D You should have added that eagle in the LANDSCAPE BIGGY PAINTING painting Gail. I love it and it would have worked just fine.
Painting is resting and I'm drinking coffee (in another room) deciding what I'm going to do. Looking at either the mountains or some rocks maybe a snake or two. hee hee. Just happen to find 'George' or resident garden snake yesterday by a rock in the garden and I was just thinking about pulling a few weeds. Gads am I glad I didn't! You would have heard the scream for miles as I wasn't expecting 'George' to be out yet wandering around this early. He has been a resident in my rock gardern for at least the last eight years. It is always nice to know he is back but not expecting him this soon was a surprise.
I tried to get our friendly Porsche, the Bass-a-lope to see him but she ignored him completely as I think she thought I was showing her where some food was. Wrong.
Have a good one, and I'll get back to figuring out what I'm going to do.

Hi Marilyn and Fellow Landscapers.
I am Breathing a Huge Sigh of Relief again/
The Robin has landed safely. Whew!!!!!
Marilyn, if you choose to paint the mountains, feel free to wash back the sky near the mountain top if you need to. I am so glad you liked my version of the desert.
Ah the Eagle, I wanted to paint it in your piece and figured if I really blew it I could scrub it out or paint you another painting. Chickened out on the ROBIN. If anyone wants to paint in an eagle, I have it scanned so just PM me.
I love your Resident Snake story, I did toy with the idea of a snake on yours and the Robin, too chicken :D

Love your mountains, and Gail is right, they do make her sky fit into the painting better now that it isn't floating up in space as it was before. Both sky and mountains make a wonderful background to what is happening in the foreground.
Lyn, I see a little bit of ground/rock beneath the cougar's feet, but I'm wondering what it is that he is watching so intently. Guess that will be revealed a little farther down the line.
Great job you are doing landscapers!

I was wondering if I may add a Robin Round section to my website...with some of the photos...and a 'splanation...I guess I'm asking if I can use some of the painting photos that you all took?

Fine with me too Lauren. Let us know when you have the Robin added.

Marilyn, did you find the little critters the eagle has his eye on???? :D
Gail
Ha! Yes Gail, I found one behind the rock, but since you said critters plural, I had to go back and look again and found another further back in the landscape hiding. Yes, that eagle does look as if he has his eyes on them. Now I'm searching for more but I have to admit my eyes are not as sharp as that eagles.
Starsprite: I'm terrible, I should have told you in order to see George you had to hike back up into the hills. I know he is there will other 'snakey' friends. I didn't want to put him into the forefront in someone elses space but if you do look carefully and perhaps we need a GIANT blowup there is a snakey shape in the distance. (HINT!) find my initials
Bob I am now blind from doing the detail in the State Flag. I used a tiny 10/ sable brush and LOTS OF PATIENCE. I would work on it a little bit at a time over a couple of days. It is too detailed to do all at one time and even now it is very rough looking as it needs a smooth surface to keep the detail clear. Thus, the furry photo :D that hides many wavy lines. Look into the rocks waaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyy back. Probably will need a better photo of the whole painting to see that small of detail.
PainterBear Anchoring the sky indeed helps to bring some perspective to the work, especially for distance. I think this will help the middle ground before advancing too quickly to the forefront. The person who tackles the middle ground has my whole-hearted Gambatti wishes.
Also, looking at the large painting, I believe that the cougar is afraid of the unseen 'George' the snake or one of his friends. LOL
Starsprite Thank you and my smile is BECAUSE I'M FINISHED and didn't spill coffee or water! :D
Strawberry Wine Thank you but the mountains wouldn't be right if you had not put the sky in-thanks.
Laudesan Thank you very much.
I can now sit back and enjoy the rest of the efforts on everyone's part to make these Robin's really fly.
Sue Galos: How awful for you. How is your hand now doing? I was just catching up here with the forum and read what had happened to you. Sounds as if you are a very lucky person considering how heavy a garage door is.

Great job on this! What a clever combination of colours too. Not only did you ground the sky, but you unified all the existing parts through the colours in those mountains!
By the way, it was only the side door so although it is heavy, it just ripped back the ball of flesh - 8 stiches, a fractured finger tip and orders to keep it clean and dry! ( which considering my job - is sort of impossible - I usually change the wrap about twice a day)

Where is the builders Robin gone? Didn't Iris promise a photo from her finished part some days ago? And didn't she want to send it via express to the next one..to be back to the show in a few days...no message about arriving...Hopefully it isn't lost....
Here I am! The painting is still with me. I PM'd Marqui--tried to go to the post office yesterday (Saturday) and found out that they couldn't deliver the painting until Tuesday.
So, instead of making Marqui rush, I will hold onto the painting until after my opening date on May 2nd. In the meantime, I'm making a "poster" to hang in the gallery after the painting leaves my hand to go to Marqui... :-)
We'll be fine! I hope to see about 500 people on Sunday-- I'll leave a "sign-up" list for anyone who is interested in the painting (even in its unfinished state) and we can email them after the painting is finished! :-)
in the meantime, I've just posted my pictures! I hope you like them!
I think I did pretty well considering that I am normally an oil painter vs. a watercolorist! :D

JayTee, I'll paint anything except the populace of our little cityscape. I'm afraid I would ruin all the good work by everyone if I tried to put in figures. I did two buildings in the original RR so I don't need to do one here. Have at it if there is a space left for one.

Hi Everyone,
I was so terrified of "messing up", but took a deep breath and just jumped in with 2 feet! :-) I'm glad it works okay for everyone! A special thanks and a big hug goes to Lauren (leverittfinn) because she gave me some helpful advice about glazing.... I think I've learned quite a bit with this project!
I was going to send it To Marqui after me, (LeverrittFinn was going to email it overseas I think to the next person...) However, if it needs to go elsewhere before it goes to Marqui, that is okay with me as well... Just let me know and Lauren and I can work out where we need to send it as well as to whom.... :-)
The show is this Sunday, May 2nd-- can you believe it? Time flies when you are having fun!! (and when things go topsy-turvy-- I cannot wait until my stress level drops on May 2nd!)
For everyone who has painted their sections before me (as well as the remaining 4 people, is it possible to email me your pictures? It will probably look better if you send me the original files rather than the tiny web-sized files needed for WC. All you need to do is to PM me and I'll forward you my email address.
What I'm doing for the show is to post each person's pictures (with the painting as it looks after you've painted your section) and will identify each person's section of the painting (as well as the sections-to-be)
When I send it on to whomever is next, I will make a life sized poster of the painting to continue to hang at the gallery during the remainder of my show.
As additions come in, I'll post them--so that the "regular" clientele can come in and check out the progress over the next month or so.
I'm also going to leave a little "visitor comment book" specifically next to the WC RRII painting so that if people are interested in purchasing it after it's done, they can leave their email / contact info and we can let them know when it is available for the auction. (I'm assuming we will do the auction online?)
All I will need from each person in the Builder's group is this:
1) Name (First Last)
2) WC screen name
3) City/State/Country
4) Optional: a contact email, website or address
5) A BRIEF paragraph about you and your artwork. (i.e. education, what your general style is like, what motivated you to do this project, or whatever you want the "audience" to know about you.) Please keep it less than a 1/2 page of text (12 point, Helvetica font).
6) Description of your building if you based it upon something near you.
7) And, last, but not least, a photo of you with your painting (if you submitted one to WC) or just of your section of the painting if you didn't post a picture of yourself.
7a) If the painting has not reached your part of the world yet, then if you'd like, you can email me a picture of you in your studio or whatever you prefer. I can also hold off until I get your section of the painting posted, too.)
In the meantime, Jaytee, FLOW COOL and sit back with a nice cold ice tea with lemon... :-)
I was just as freaked out as you, but I shooed my husband out of the studio, and, using a little brush, I very carefully painted--a few inches at a time. Just take your time, I certainly did! It also helped that I put a piece of paper under my right hand so that I would not smudge the other paintings. :-) The only thing I can tell you is that the paper doesn't want to lay very flat, so you may have to do a little adjusting when taping it down... :-) (it took me several tries to get it to flatten out -- even after having it rest for several days.)
Once it is ready for the show, I will send everyone a photo of it on our gallery wall! :-)

Power to the Flowers! I need a raised fist icon .. As
Char mentioned, we talked and talked and talked! :D Amazing what happens when like minded people get together.
My finger is infected now so this process may take a bit more time than I had hoped - I'm seeing my doctor every other day so she can monitor the condition - apparently I'm a very bad patient! I can't keep it dry ... imagine that! I finally found a glove that fits over the wrapping, but it still gets wet doing random stuff - like empting the dishwasher. I have to take antibiotics 4 times a day... yuck. If it gets worse, we may have to look at a different rotation for the painting ... we shall see.
I want a lesson in how to do that!
Well. I´m not the best indicated to teach "animations cause this one is my first, but at least here are my experiences on the mission...
I learned the overall way by reading the HELP at the Image ready software.
Basics:
select the pict you want to include.
Make tham all the same size in pixels.
Manipulate digitally as you can due to fit contrast and gamma between them.
Put them all in one new folder created for that.
At IR use the FILE/IMPORT/ FOLDER AS FRAMES.
Voilá!
The you have to research more deep features of the program as "optimization", But I am not an expert yet to teach you that...

Hey Alex, I'm wondering when the painting is completely finished maybe it's possible to start with the finished picture and also a picture of a blank sheet and to "clone out" (i.e. erase the finished areas from) each step? (does that make any sense to you?) In other words, to go "backwards" and "add back in" the paper vs. trying to layer each of the buildings on top of each other.
Then each step is the right color /size, etc. because they all came from the same picture?
I might be able to help to animate once May 2nd's opening is over. :-) I've always wondered how everyone did those wonderful animations!
Oh, and what is "IR" and "gamma"... still learning a lot about the "technical terms" of the graphics software. (I have Photoshop CS.)
--Iris
Yes Iris, the last and definitive animation will be done that way to ensure colour and values are the same, in the meantime I just add the new step to make it quick.
IR in Image Ready the software to make the animation
Gamma is a photo feature related to saturation of the basic colours ( red, green and blue) that uses the software to compose all colors.

Hey Everyone,
Hate to be "pressuring" but I would really like to have all of the builders' biographies for the builders RRII by this evening. This is in order to have time to put the explanation board together for Sunday's exhibit!
Otherwise, I will have to do my best utilizing the (rather small) photos from the WC site (and that might not come out as sharp as a larger file) as well as the limited information about each of the artists listed on the RRII painting.
Please PM me if you can't get through to my email via WC--I think you can also send me an email with the proper attachments via WC as well.
I cannot wait to see what people think on Sunday!

Hi Everyone,
Very tired... Just finished doing a 3-screen gocco print for my show on Sunday... (also for another project I'm doing on WC)
Anyways...Things are finally starting to gel together....
So far, I've received info from the following in the builder's Group:
Jijo (Alex)
Felicia Keech-Smith
Seedy (Brian)
LeverittFinn (Lauren)
pinkbubelz (ME)
Marqui
Painterbear (Sylvia)
Thanks for replying! ;)
I'm still missing 3 people... but so far, the info has been very helpful (and the pictures, too.)
*** I'm going to bed now... have to get up in a few hours, but I might as well catch SOME sleep or I will be non-functional later today.... ***
I will continue to check my computer throughout the day. However, after about 3 p.m. USA (Eastern Standard Time), I will not have access to my computer.... so, those of you who have not yet responded-- if you'd like any info to be included, please email it to me.. :-)

Hey everyone
I've been playing around, and was asked ( ok TOLD) by our fearless leader, Alex, ( lol ) to post the URL ..... if there are any mistakes or if there is anything you can think of to add or take out ,please message me with the information, and I'll put it up or take it down! It would be great if someone could write a little "blurb" about the projects so I could put that up too! Thanks for all your help!

When I'm back online on Monday, I will forward my "write-up" about the Builders... :-) Will that help out your website?
I also have a very clear photo that I can email you as well, if that helps at all!

 I am really beginning to worry WHY
THE MAIL IS THAT SLOW FROM NEW YORK TO VIRGINIA????
I pm'd Mary that the tube (LANDSCAPE AND GIFT) was in the mail Monday, April 26and it is now Sunday May 2!!!! I could have walked there and returned by now. Had I known I was going physically in that direction next week for a trip with my husband--I would have hand delivered it. I should have. I should have.
 One would wonder about the US MAIL
So--I'm asking myself WHY ME! :crying:
Anyone want to help me mentally focus on getting that tube into the hands of Mary? I can use all the help I can get here for mental movement thoughts to get the postal service to get the tube to Mary. Maybe some esp thoughts!
"tube to Mary NOW - tube to Mary NOW - tube to Mary NOW"
All together now: Repeat above phrase after me and with me --- please!
You think I'm worrying too soon? I am really good at worrying

Thanks Gail--I now know why you were so thrilled when I received it. LOL
Tomorrow leaving till May 11 with no email available so I was hoping it would be there ( to Virginia) before I left. It should have been!
You can drive s--l--o--w--l--y to Virginia in less than 8 hours for heavens sake. Thank goodness I had it insured! One would think that should make a difference. We mail packages to our son at least once a week to Iraq and they manage to arrive. (OPPS! Surely, they looked at the address differences at the post office and didn't throw it along with the military mail) --Do you think they could be that careless?
Well, I'm off and there is nothing to be done till I get back and I will try to get a positive attitude that it will have arrived by the time I return.
Marilyn

Hi Everyone.
Just got home.
Boy, am I tired!
After a bunch of "Murphy's law" types of last minute craziness, I managed to finally be able to relax and talk to people!
I'm not sure how many people went through the gallery yesterday, but my dad took tons of pictures-- I will post them when he gets them developed for me! :D
The good news-- I spoke to 2 people who were HIGHLY interested in having the RRII painting put into the local newspaper as a news interest article! (keep our fingers crossed!!!) I will try to email them both (or call them) either today or tomorrow...
Everyone who saw the painting and heard about the description thought it was a neat idea. I told them what we were doing with it--about how it is travelling around the US and the world... that we would be auctioning it off after it is done and that proceeds are going to auction, etc.... :-)
I **HOPE** that the news articles come to fruition... :-) Luckily, I will be back in Lansing this week for 4 days-- so hopefully, I can have the article written sometime while I am up there!
If the papers decide to write the article, I will DEFINITELY send a copy of it to all involved. Unfortunately, I didn't have all of the artist descriptions and photos in time, but tonight I am going to get the rest of what I have together and I will be bringing it to the gallery tomorrow. (That way, the visitors will have a complete idea of who and what is being shown. :D )
********
Oh yes, I almost didn't answer Jijo's question-- after the "dust" settled and all of the final disasters were brought under control, the opening went well! I had the wife of a former painting professor stop by (my prof. had died last year) and also my forme photography professor (Ironically, I didn't do well in his class, but he complimented me on my work and joked that maybe he needed to go back and change my grade... :D His wife was the one who gave me a contact at the local newspaper.)
Lots of friends showed up whom I never expected, and a few friends came up on Saturday night to help me weather the storm and keep my sanity.
So much hard work-- I sold 1 painting and several smaller paintings on paper canvas at the opening. For me-- that was a great day-- I know I made the right decision to put my work in the gallery (despite all of the ups and downs in my dealing with the gallery owner!) At least now I can tell people that I have had my own show and I will have much better organization for my next show... :-)
AND... Everyone loved the RRII painting! Lots of people were curious about it and they thought it was a really neat concept!
--Iris
P.S. I will post pictures in the next few days once I get them from my dad!

By the way, I talked to the Gallery Owner today...
She told me that several people have begun to inquire as to whether or not prints will be made or if only the painting is being auctioned....
What should I tell her? There's a possibility that the local Lansing newscaster anchor will be announcing my show in her community events calendar... :-) I hope that will bring more people into the gallery to check out out the RRII! :-) I will keep everyone posted! Don't worry, I will not keep the painting too much longer-- but please let me know who I need to send to next. Is it still Marqui?

Hello everyone .. the new project looks great! I leave for China in a week. We sent a print (Global Village) ahead and it is framed and ready to present to the school in An Shang (http://www.globalvolunteers.org/1main/china/anshang1.htm).
We sent a check to Global Volunteers for $5,000 ... the actual proceeds were about $4,600 but we rounded it off. :) and I understand that there will be a formal presentation of the print and a "mock check" so I will have camera in hand.
Thanks to all who participated.
I would like to think about sponsoring it again, and right now, trying to wrap up things here before I leave doesn't leave much time to think, but there will be plenty of time for thinking on the 24 hours of travel that is ahead of me.
I also would like to talke to the Global Volunteers boad about the project. Many of the sales were to past volunteers, and that is good. I would just like to see more sales. Your group might want to think about that as well.
So I just wanted to pop in and send my regards, good job!
Thanks Ron for looking, have a nice trip, and we´ll think together when you´re back.

Thanks, we have all come so far. You realize that if we release e a new print .. it makes a series .. :) There is a lot to be said for that .. the promotion of this print ... also promotes the first print .. and we already have a customer base for the first print... you think that they may want to own the next? I think so.
I look at it as an opportunity to raise money for a good cause. But I am also motivated to demonstrate that prints are valuable. The first Global Village print yielded over $6,000 in sales (before expenses). I don't remember what the original sold for .. but you can see that prints are more valuable than originals :) collectively. And we are not finished.
I am inclinded to do it again... with your help of course :) Painting is half the battle .. selling is the other half... Keeping your "shelves full " (and you will know what I mean if you are a subscriber to "Marketing Tips" is truely the key.
Closest thing to a commecial message that I have ever posted. But I want you to know that my motivation is to demonstrate what every artist is capable of doing. That is to put into print an excellent image into an excellent product that can be sold over and over again. :)
Can't wait to share my report on China. Keep up the good work.

Now, do I get to post my gift?? Or do I have to wait? It is a lovely, Mediterranean feeling painting in Char's great style. She kept apologizing for it - silly woman! She is SO critical of her own work. I consider myself extremely fortunate to be the one to recieve the RR after Char. :D .
Here are my photos of our meeting:
1. 2 happy women
2. Silly me (typical) and poor put upon Char
3. Back view of injured digit
4. Front view of injured digit - and the reason I have trouble even writing still.

Another update.
I talked to a reporter at the Lansing State Journal today.
I've emailed her my press release (for my art show)
and will email her the artist information for the other artists tonight.
She thinks our painting has an interesting story and may have a reporter
write a piece on it.
I'm hoping they might be able to get back to me by the weekend, so that they can see the painting in person before it leaves my (gallery's) hands!
My gallery owner told me that there's a possibility of having the State News (Michigan State University's campus paper) write an article as well. I will call them about it tomorrow. (and will email them tonight.)

By the way....
You have my three cats. Kindly return them please. ;)
Cats number one, three and five are dead ringers for my three cats.
Hey, I'll gladly give you # 3 as she is the most demanding little mouthpiece going! I think I'll keep the rest. :D
I am definitely not going to be quick with my portion of the painting. I had a workshop this weekend with Jack Reid - first time I've tried to paint since the finger incident - was not very sucessful. I did paint not badly, although I haven't a lot of control, but it was very painful and the infection in the finger flared up quite badly, so that I'm back on fairly aggressive anti biotics for the next 2 weeks. I will have to see what I can get done, small bits at a time
These are Jack's demos
in order, Friday's demo; saturday's demo and sunday's demo
I was only able to do the first 2: after that I was in too much pain

JACK REID?!!!! JACK REID!!! That must've cost you an arm and a finger...hehehe. ( sorry...couldn't help it. :o ). I love all three of your demo paintings!!!! Especially the first one, though. Man that must have been a great workshop! Sorry to hear about your finger getting worse though...what a bummer. :crying:

I think all 5 of the paintings are gorgeous, but if you only painted the first 2, who painted 3, 4 & 5?

Oh, Sue! Those are gorgeous paintings! I'm soooo sorry to hear about the finger, though. I mangled a thumb with a microphone stand years ago - it swelled to almost double it's size and took forever to heal. I can sympathize. Take care of that digit and to quote Alex, "Flow Kool." Finger healing is top priority.
Oh, and Ganbatte, too.

Hey Sue,
Sorry to hear that you are having more problems with your finger, hope this round of treatment sorts it out. :)
Don't rush with the Florals though - take your time!
You see - I will be on a course myself in Scotland from 28th May to 5th June, although DH will be here to receive post etc.

Uhh Mary, :o , I painted the last 2; Jack painted the first 3. I wish I were that good! He sold these for $250. They are a 1/2 sheet on 260 lb. strathmore.
Thanks Erin - I will do the flag first and see how that goes.
Nina, I think it probably will be the end of May before I send it on, so enjoy your course.
JJ, if it's female major, they kept me for 3 days!! and I raked leaves 2 days later - AND was sick the next day - go figure!

How strange! I swear when I responded to your comment about attending the Jack Reid workshop there were only the first three pics there...not FIVE!! And I thought you painted them! At any rate...now going back and looking at all Five...and seeing that you did the last two....you still did a great job Sue!!!! Very well done!! Looks like you learned a lot. That is a lot of $$$ though!
Landscaper Mary Smith......yooo hoooooooo.....how's it goin?? Have you decided what section you are gonna paint yet?

JJ, sorry to hear about your upcoming hospital stay, good luck.
Patty, I am painting some of the foreground rocks. It is coming along just fine.

So sorry to hear Laudesan and Sue about your ongoing troubles and those to come. Yikes!
Sue Really nice paintings you have done.
I hope you both are soon on the mend and will keep you in my thoughts so both get well soon as you can as Summer is here (USA) and Winter is there right? (Australia).
How cold does your area get Laudesan?
When we lived in PR of China, the children from Aussie-land always complained about having to take our (US) summer vacation time in their Winter (Australia)time, so most waited to go on leave in December and January (US winter) back to Australia. Confusing huh. LOL :D
Take it easy both of you -- Okay?
Mary: Have fun with the rocks-I seriously thought of doing those also.

Hi Alex, the finger still not capable of doing brushwork (or writing, or using a pencil ) for very long. Fortunately, I don't use it for typing! :D I do expect to get SOME work done later this weekend, but first must visit my mother ( out of town ) then I will try to paint - promise!

My part of the painting is fabulous if I do say so myself! However, the flag portion is giving me a fit and I hate the way it looks, but there is nothing to be done except finish it up and get it out of here. :(

Mary don't fret....the flag part is hard to get perfect as it is so small for any detailing.......don't forget to post what you have done before you send it off........
Looking forward to seeing your part.

Here is my contribution. I have numbered the sections because they run together as a whole. My flag is a complete disaster. Any ideas on fixing it before I mail this thing on to the next artist?

Mary......I'm not sure about scrubbing it out....it's really not all that bad. Are the colors you used staining. If you really want to scrub...the paper is Arches and will pretty much hold up to scrubbing. \
Have you looked at my flag.......lol it's not all that great either......just to much stuff in our florida flag, so i just hinted at it.....so really yours is not any worst than mine......I think you did a pretty good job of it myself. Do what you feel comfortable doing.....sorry not much help.

Excellent Sue!! That trellis really looks good behind Bob's flowers/pots - it blends in well! I wonder if someone can be that creative when they do the desert sand part behind my yucca plants on the landscaper......I hope, I hope, I hope not too much trouble for them. :o

Mary, I think you did a fanstastic job on those rocks, and I love the grasses and the little desert snake! They look like they go well next to Anita's rocks.... we'll see with the pic of the whole painting. Oh and don't forget to put the pic of your part, the flag, you holding the painting and pic of the whole shabang on the Final Progress in the Projects.
About the flag, the only suggestion I have is to maybe define the farmer's legs a little more with some more black outline, other than that I wouldn't worry about it. Mine doesn't show much detail and it really isn't the most important part of it.....I don't think. More important that you got the painting looking so nice! :)
Sue, your "treillage" is fabulous.
Mary, excellent rocks and very sauvage snake, poor rabbit...
an I like the flags.
But... where is Iris and the builders painting?????... still exhibiting...mmmm time to trip....

Beautiful work Sue & Char on the flower painting. (Char I just realized I never told how much I liked your statue when you painted it!.. I really thought I had) Your trellis looks great Sue, especially with that hurt finger.. wowzer!
Mary, looking good!!! You incorporated you rocks, plants and that snake in quite nicely!
I admit, I'm with you Alex... Sure hope our buildings are alright. You our there Iris??

Looking good everyone!!!
And, I'm a little concerned where Iris has gotten to, too! I haven't been posting much, hubby going through some stuff, been spending time at the hospital with him, so not much chance to concentrate on painting these days. I drop into the forums once in a while, but just mostly to read. Anyway, I hope all is well with the builders painting ( and Iris!).......
Marqui
ps...Erin, have you gotten your animation of the flower project done so I can post it on the website?
