Some boro fun

Glad to see I'm not the only one still awake.

This is just my third post so hopefully, this image will show up.

Tom and Sage Holland were my first bead teachers almost eight years ago and everyday I think back on all of the times that I have spent with them over the years, and I am always drawn back to the simple yet powerful archetypical image of the ancient eye beads that Sage introduced me to. These are my latest interpretation of the classical image in off-mandrel pendants.

great work everyone,

now i know why kate mckinnon calls you mmmdustin. ;) your beads are lovely - i've been looking on your website intermittently & am pleased by your personal approach to glass. nice to see you here.

amoret, the swirly beauty of your boro is quite pleasing.

glitzy (sorry, i didn't check the sig. for your 'real name'), i like the stripes. i spent most of the day yesterday making stripes, so i understand the urge.

thanks for the eye candy.

Good Morning! Everyones work is wonderful. Ellen

12-07-2003, 11:27 AM
Here's my humble offering this morning. I'm working on gifts for the ladies that work in my department. I'm giving them early because I won't be there the last couple weeks, so I thought they might like something seasonal.

12-07-2003, 12:25 PM
Here's mine. It might look like it, but it's not really a finished object. There may be spacers, and it may be strung, but it's just cheap stretchy silver stuff. But I REALLY wanted to wear some of my beads for our holiday open house at work. These will be restrung as soon as I learn how!!

Editted to say: Wow, they didn't look that blurry on my monitor. I'll see if I can fix.

12-07-2003, 03:15 PM
Everyone! Oh my gosh, there are some days when every single post makes me feel like I'm in the presence of greatness. I am so humbled today! And I don't even have anything to share (been making jewelry like a madwoman for this show, no beads for me for another full week!) but I HAD to say... omigod! You guys are - AMAZING - no other way to put it! Every one of you.

Dustin, I am another admirer of yours. I'm glad to see you here! Alex, your first boro beads are so nice! Mine are... um... hilarious.

Thanks gals!!

Harriet, Those nugget beads are easy.

Black base with aventurine (goldstone) powder.
silver wire

The goldstone turns a cool coppery green color. They have sparkle too but the camera didn't pic it up.
I used it on the candlesticks too with a bunch of small size reduction frits.
The heavier you lay it on, the greener it gets.

12-07-2003, 07:49 PM
Omigosh! This has got to be one of the best show-n-tells I have ever seen! I'm finally back in my studio after a little forced time off...girlie surgery back in October, but I am good for a million miles now. ;)

Here is some of what went out the door today...

Merry, Merry!

I've been playing with the rubino tutorial and frits.

12-07-2003, 08:41 PM
Nice bracelets Darla!

Well, Chris has done it again with the secret frit. I am envious.

he just gets sexier and sexier with each new set he makes. Is that possible?

12-07-2003, 08:54 PM
Should I start a Night Owl's Show and Tell or wait until tomorrow or post it here where no one will see it because they're out holiday shopping... Hmmm...

12-07-2003, 08:57 PM
Sonya buddy --------------- I want those beadsssssssssssssss...

Love them...

12-07-2003, 10:05 PM
Jami, I'm unfamiliar with boro glass and don't think I have ever seen anyone use (or post pics of) stringerwork on their boro beads before. How did you achieve this effect? I love that gold-looking stringer application! :cat:

Thanks Suzanne. I've been doing this for about two years now with my original design called copper paisley. With boro it's just a matter of finding the right color combo that "pops" together. The gold effect is similar to reduction stringer but you encase it.

Nice bracelets Darla!

Thanks, Sonya! Chris' beads are delicious!

12-08-2003, 01:14 PM
