going, after all, I was trying to get all of us to compare notes every week, but this is the first open studio in like a month?
The usual 1/4 page h2o color with watercolor underwash and pastel.

Djstar, this strikes me as a complete painting. Would you tell us of the particulars? What was the sitting like? How did you work on it? How long? Did you try to work on it without the model? How was that? thanks.

Juicy, Lovely and Accurate (ho hum, as always...)
You are really one of my big heros here, djstar, I always look forward to your posts. Great job on the skin tones, you even got the tan in perfectly!

so good to see you again and glad you got to a session.
this is fabulous as always, I particularly like the hand, it's perfect.
Miltz, if you read this again, my kid totally flipped out on your tiny head. He said you were all 'jello-ee' heh heh.

I was wondereing where you got to.. I read your story in another thread.. what a bummer.. I hope you hand heals real quick.
It doesn't appear to have threatened your art too much.. this is terrific. Typical DJ style. I love it.
Zotma... Jello-ee ? to me it was a distant reminder of the 60's and a bad trip :D

Actually... Miltz' tinyhead is clear proof that he's a shape-****ing alien.
Anyway, my favourite part here is the skin tones on this painting - how above the collar is darkened, how her breasts are a pale, but not a fake looking white, etc..
Good work.

ditto for me. Love this piece. How big is a 1/4 sheet actually and do you sell your work?

Ok, this is a stoney faced definately hedgehogged haired model. Very deep into middle aged, she has a very limited posing style. She sits. I did her sitting in a chair with her foot up. One with her arms down. YAWN. We managed to jam her into a wingback chair and I wanted to try to get the depth of her tanned hand in front of her generous breast. I am pretty happy with the finish.
There was a deep red velvet drape on the wall and I think I may tone it down as Jerry suggested in the other forum.
We decided a 1/4 sheet of watercolor paper is 11x15. It is actually Morrilla rough 140 lb. It is very textural.
NO so far, I am not selling. I think I will break out the oils soon. I love the medium of pastel, but I am too poor to frame everything.
I have been really sidetracked with my summer, which I intended to live sparsely but creatively. I have been tending to everyone else with no great results, so I am trying to get rid of them and make an effort to redeem myself in August.
I entered three pieces in the Pastel Society of America show and will know if I am hauling them on the plane with me in September to New York.
Check in around the 10th to see if I am walking on air..
Trying like mad to get back in to the swing of things by next week.
Hope to post again next monday.
