The third time was a disaster for learning Leonardo's technique. The original was in silverpoint and I tried to duplicate it in graphite on Canson Mi-Teintes paper. the things I try to do. I know smooth paper would have been better but I wanted the tone of this paper and in the end, even it wasn't dark enough.
OK, enough whining. I still like the picture. :) As always critiques appreciated.

Cool Gia! Which master are you copying presently?
BTW I love your quote. Odd Nerdrum is an amazing painter. He's good and he's so theatrical - such a refreshing change from the minimalists. :p

at the moment...Matisse
I agree, Nerdrum is an amazing painter...and also an amazing
personality...I don't know him in person , but I know someone who has been his student at the very special Nerdrum School here in
Norway .....he says Nerdrum believes he`s God,
or at least a god:)
Unfortunately Nerdrum doesen`t want to live here anymore so
he has moved to Iceland, there has been a very heated debate among academy cans
weather his paintings are ART or just good workmanship!!
Sad for this country`s art history!!

Thanks, bud. I have some changes that I'll scan in later today.
Gia, I didn't know that Nerdrum was still teaching. Yes, I have heard about his ego but in that respect I don't think he's too different from other successful artists and teachers.
I find his self portrait series fascinating. Some of his more allegorical work is harder to get into. But then, I've always been a regular reailst (not classical, not romantic, not photo realistic - just plain old realism)

Dana
me too :) When I started 1st grade, the only other Dana was a senior in high school and he was a pretty big, footbal type of guy. Embarassment in buckets.
Thanks Arlene. :)
