I think this would qualify as sculpture? Finally completed our coupala for the art studio. The roof and fish is cooper which then I applied a patina. It will turn much greener/bluish with time. Interesting series of chemicals that was applied. Normally patina developes after decades of exposure. Old European architecture with cooper roofs would be an example. :oL

Another piece of art was a series of giant bamboo embeded in gravel in a steel basin, cut in half from a huge road drum soil compacter that graders use to make roads.

Hi leopolodo!

That cupola looks fantastic! What a project! Please share with us how it was made. Thanks. :)

The bamboo construction is interesting too. Where did the idea for that come from? Do you have shots of anymore?

Thanks Sandra,
The copala was given to me 15 years ago and came off a old barn. The only salvageble parts were the swooping copper roof. I was fornuate to be able to use the old dry rott lumber as a pattern to create a new structure. I added the fish in copper to the top. I cut out two indentical sides and brazed them together on a 1/2 inch copper plumbing line to elevate the fish like a weather vane. It took 6 months before weather conditons were appropriate to apply the chemical greenish patina for it needs to be applied in clear weather. It has turned considerable more green since I posted. Interesting recipe stuff that I had found from a architectural web site!

The bamboo was given to us from a close friend who has this rare giant bamboo growing in his yard. We have a start and that is growing in our yard. A welding buddy was discarding the drum and the idea popped, putting the two together as a outdoor sculpture by adding pea gravel in the drum to secure the bamboo upright. Below is a photo of some of my wifes work of pyramid heads stacked outside the studio. I am in the tree business so wood is readily available and being the artist she is, this is the results. :oL

Thanks for the info, Leopoldo, and the updated photos. It looks sensational. I like your wife's colourful pyramid heads, too. Very cheery! :D
