View Full Version : My First Watercolors

I found these hidden away in a newsprint block that I'll be using in my drawing class. They are from my first w/c workshop in 1986. The first floral I did was so terrible that it no longer exists! The instructor asked me the first day "if I'd ever painted before". The floral I worked on half the night so I'd have something to take to class the next day! and the barn was painted plein air. The tugboat I did on our third day sold to a very "nearsighted" (I'm sure!) gentleman who wanted to hang it on his houseboat because the tug was being hauled away the next week! I did have the distinct honor of being the only artist who sold a painting that week...lol!

Cool, Carly, that you still have these around! I still have some sketches from Life Drawing class. It's fun to go back and see how far we've come from when we lst began this pursuit!

Or...does IT pursue US??!!

Carly, my own watercolors that are that old do not look nearly as good! Wanna give this ole granny a lesson? Your recent floral postings are great - loose, fresh etc etc !

Actually Amelia, that workshop was my first and last attempt with watercolors until this past month! Just got the urge to try them again!

Carol...you are too sweet!

Carly, I think the instructor problably asked that because they were so good!!!!!! I think if I dug down deep enough, I'd probalby find my first ones and they aren't nearly that nice. Phyl

Carly, I just got the inkling to try watercolors again also. I haven't used them since about the same year as you mentioned. I wonder what was going on during that time that sent us in other directions. I like the pieces you have posted, both these and the others. You do good work.
