01-16-2020, 04:57 PM
Yes, it's not the end of January, yet, and almost all allocated!

01-16-2020, 04:59 PM
It's nearly the 20th! I'm looking forward to seeing what appears. 😎

01-18-2020, 03:01 PM
I'm starting again.
My first attempt looks a bit better now I haven't looked at it for a few days, but I feel like trying something different with the same ref. It might turn out worse, but two bad pictures are better than one

01-18-2020, 04:26 PM
Good luck, Kay. It often surprises me what differences you can see after setting a work aside for a while.

01-18-2020, 09:06 PM
Very true. Or what you can see to improve a picture as soon as you post it on the internet.

Mine's finished and ready to post. :)

Hi everyone - Monday 20th January, here today in New Zealand.
I'm posting at last - having major login problems with the Internet today. I'm now using Edge as a Browser instead of Chrome. Don't know why I can't get into WC with Chrome? Anyone else having login problems?

20cm x 30cm - PanPastels on Mi-Teintes pastel paper
Couldn't resist painting the little foal!

01-19-2020, 08:37 PM
Vivien - That is exceptional. The values are perfect; horses have a reputation (deservedly) of being difficult.

Lesley - Thank you for hosting! I figured since it is past midnight in the UK, I would post first, but Vivien beat me to it! :cat:

This is a small watercolor, about 8 x 4 inches. C & C always welcome.

01-19-2020, 10:57 PM
Lesley - thanks for hosting!
Vivien - love your foal!
Joy - well done with the dog!

I chose to do this lovely bird. This is my second or third ever pastel picture, my pastels are staying out as I had a lot of fun with this. The pastels are Reeves, pastel pencils are Derwent, on tinted Daler Rowney pastel paper. Size around 6x6".

Thanks for looking. :)

01-20-2020, 12:31 PM
Thank you, everyone.

01-20-2020, 12:42 PM
Hello everyone!
Vivien: so lovely little foal !
Joy: so cute !
Christel: beautiful !
Sanlynn: I can't see the difference between the picture and the painting, so realistic !
Penny: very nice little dog !
Pat: very original painting for the rooster !
Kay.M: Beautiful rooster !
Bonnie: very nice sketches !
I've chosen the rooster and the clown fish, watercolor 5/6 and 6/4

01-20-2020, 12:49 PM
Thank you, Zelda.

Yours are very good. I like the effect of light coming through the water.

01-20-2020, 01:04 PM
Christel - The way you made the fish stand out from the BG was excellent.

Sanlynn - Very well executed. Feathers look very natural.

Penny - You should frame this and enter it in a competition. Dogs are really your talent. The direction of the hair and the expression is so natural. What size is this?

Pat - How creative! This is very nice.

Kay - Perfect without being overdone.

Bonnie - Excellent

Zelda - I like both, but the way you kept the bright colors on the fish and portrayed the coral is very nice and not muddy at all. Very fresh looking.

01-20-2020, 01:34 PM
Thank you very much, Joy. I am drawn to dogs as subjects. it's small, around 12" x 8". Usually, I give a work to the owner and keep a print.

01-20-2020, 04:52 PM

Thanks, Robert.

01-21-2020, 04:20 AM
I just remembered that I have not posted my picture. I was going to add more detail to the back ground but I can not make up my mind. If I do any more to it before the end of the month and always post it again.
It is coloured pencils on pastelmat.

I will post comments on all the lovely picture later in the day.

01-21-2020, 04:54 AM
Kay - love your rooster!
Bonnie - great little drawings!
Zelda - well done with both of the paintings!
Lesley - cool! Looking forward to seeing if you finish the background.

01-21-2020, 05:45 AM
It looks good as it is, Lesley. Perhaps a coloured, leafy background would add to it, but I like it as it is. They have really sweet expressions.

01-21-2020, 03:03 PM
Lesley - Boy, I really like the interaction between the subjects. That is very difficult to get the stripes to follow the form, and you did it well. As Penny stated, a leafy BG would be nice, but maybe something non-representational, just some blending of the yellows and greens.

01-22-2020, 03:07 AM
Thank you for your comments on my owl.
You definitely know your dog anatomy, Penny. Well done in pastel.
Pat, what an interesting way to use those gel pens.
I can tell you had fun Kay, great job.
Bonnie, nice work on those ink drawings. I especially like the foal.
Zelda, two wonderful paintings. Your clown fish really pops against the background.
Lesley, you were brave to tackle those zebra. Hope you finish the background and repost.

Ouch . I hope you heal well and regain a full range of motion in that arm. I have arthritis in both shoulders from stacking hay for a herd of horses over the years. My horses are all gone at this point as my arthritic knees had gotten so bad that walking is an exercise in agony. I can still paint and do artwork but no more large animals to care for here. Still have the barn cats and a couple of embden geese that are watchdogs and let me know if anyone is coming up the drive. The time you have off is best spent painting and drawing. Surgery is no picnic, but you may as well make lemonade out of that lemon of an accident you suffered.. As always, Deb.

01-22-2020, 01:05 PM
I am sorry you suffer so much with arthritis, Deb. A nasty, insidious disease.

Thank you, Chammi. I was thinking of you today and wondering how you were. Take care in the dark.

Finally got my Internet connection sorted so I can comment at last:

Joy - Lovely watercolor of the pup! You've really caught his/her cuteness factor!

Christel - Love the bright color in your watercolor of the fish!

Sanlynn - Wonderful, alert expression on your Owl!

Penny - Awwwww! what a cutie - great pastel technique! You are doing excellent pastel artwork!

Pat - Beautiful, vivid color!

KayM - Beautiful job on the pastel hen - you should do more pastel artwork as you are very proficient with pastels! Well done!

Bonnie - Great job on both the startled owl and the foal! Love those eyes on the Owl!

Zelda - Lovely work on both! I really like those beams of light coming down in the sea, from the top of your painting!

Lesley - Beautiful painting of the Zebras - great job on those stripes!

Chammi - Good to hear from you - take care there in South Africa.

Robert -Thanks for commenting.

Deborah Sorry to here you suffer so much from Arthritis. I know the feeling having also spent most of my life riding and caring for my horses. Hope you get some relief from the pain.

Wonderful paintings from you all and thank you so much Lesley for Hosting!

01-22-2020, 06:13 PM
Thank you, Viv. I hope to improve with pastels, so your comments are very encouraging.

01-22-2020, 08:06 PM
Bonnie - very good ink drawings, I like the touches of colour too.

Zelda - two beautiful paintings, I love the texture to your rooster amd I like how you chose red for the background, it works really well. Love the light above your clownfish.

Lesley - great work on the zebras, I like the bold stripes.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments, I really appreciate it. :)

Everyone has done such wonderful work on all their paintings this month...
Really like the rooster done on black paper with the gel pens, all the pups are cute and look cuddly, the owls and zebras are well done, and the foals are adorable, it seems like the clownfish is very popular this month too.

I did the clownfish in my sketchbook 4x6 using crayola colored pencils, they work okay I guess, the bg got a little too complicated with the limited colors I have, I used all 12 of them...lol
