View Full Version : Gorilla in Charcoal

I've waited a long time to post this - 18 months in the making. Honestly, with so many projects on the go, I didn't think I'd actually finish a piece this year. With only two weeks to go, finishing this in time was cutting it fine.

As always, I've uploaded a few progress pics along the way (the colour is off in some due to taking them on my phone). Can't wait to get this one framed.

Derwent charcoal pencils on Pastelmat white paper - 30cm x 40cm.

C&C welcome - let me know what you think.

My oh my, this was like unwrapping a present, not knowing what to expect, and when you get the final wrapping off you are left speechless. I can almost feel the fur/hair, which has such depth and the whole painting is overwhelming with character. Amazing, simply amazing. You should be over the moon with joy at this one.

Thanks everyone for your great comments. I'm going to get this one framed in the new year so I'll post an update. Going to try and finish some of the others I have lying around over the Christmas break. Wish me luck.

Superb, I love the fine detail. I enjoyed seeing your process, I need to try charcoal again (I got some for Christmas) and progress pictures like yours are really helpful. Looking forward to seeing your other finished pieces
