View Full Version : Sennelier Pastelcard Question

My lovely wife came home with a Pad of Sennelier Pastelcards, now I know you cant use a wet under painting, but my question is should I mount this paper on a foam board before I use it or can I mount it directly to my easel board? This paper is quite expensive and I dont want to ruin any.
Thanks in advance for any advice

I am addicted to La Carte....there, I've said it! But seriously, I turn the paper over, take a piece of masking tape that I secure to the side edge (face down) 1/2 of the width of the tape to the back of the paper. That leaves 1/2 the width hanging over the edge. I repeat to the opposite edge. I flip the paper right side up and lay on my drawing board. The pieces of tape on either edge are now sticky side up. I take another piece of masking tape, sticky side down and secure the taped sides to the drawing board. This way, no tape is actually touching the sanded side of your La Carte. I also take scrap paper to make a ledge to catch falling dust. I'm going to attach photos to better explain what I'm trying to say. This is a trick Dianna Ponting taught us in her workshop. Is this confusing? Or does this help? By the way, I never said I was neat when I work.

Actually I think this is the same way Karen Margulis does it too.... and it makes sense, I will give it a go !

I really like doing this as well as it allows you to paint out to the edge of the paper.
