About a year ago, I took a pastel board that I ended up not liking in the large size (it ate the pastel sticks) and I painted it with chalkboard paint. I framed it and hung in the kitchen area. Every holiday or season I do a painting on the board.

I use Crayola chalk and maybe a few pastels as needed. What amazes me is that I can do a fun painting in minutes, such as an Easter bunny sitting on an egg, or my dog on the beach. I find I’m not concerned about doing a “professional” painting so I really just have fun and go “wild”. You can make adjustments easily and when ready just wash off and tackle the next painting. It actually helped me loosen up. Friends always get a kick out of seeing what I painted on the board.

That's a great idea, Pam! You are having fun and keeping your skills fresh - a perfect combination. I wish I didn't consider the cost of each piece of "nice" paper when I paint. It seems I only really loosen up and play after I've wrecked it and washed it off at least once.
