Nicely done Christel. Love the sheen on it's fur and the texture in the tree bark.

They might be cheap oil pastels on cheap paper but you have made them look great. Well done Christel.

Excellent, Christel. The expression on the cats face! I wish I got on with oil pastels like you do. Do you smooth them to a point - how do you get detailed work from stubby pastels?

Nice :).. is bit more colorful than your usual style. You can increment contrast and get those gaps off if you use oils solvents like turpentine or spirits.

Thanks Penny, Federico and Kay!
Penny, this painting has a first layer of op's washed in with mineral turps to try and fill the holes. I then added little bits of op onto the background wash and blended it in with a tortillion. For a sharp edge like the whiskers, I use the unused end og the op. I usually work my op's so that there is normally a sharp edge. Oil based cps and wax crayons, shapers, even graphite pencils can be used for detailing. For a speck of highlight in the eye, I sometimes use a knife and just press the op where I want it.

Beautiful and lively painting, Christel. I suspect this cat's got his eyes on a bird. Great work!

Well you may have used cheap Oil Pastels and cheap paper, but what a great result! I like the intense expression on the cat's face....he has his eye on a bird I think! The tree trunk is also beautifully rendered! Beautiful painting Christel!
