View Full Version : Girl - a study

Just finished this one with a little New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc.
It’s acrylics on paper, roughly 9”X12”.

A detail: her face
Thank you for looking

She's very pensive. A special study for sure.

Whom is studying who? Who is studying whom?
The artist looked and looked
perhaps this is what he saw
but the woman was watching every brush stroke.
What did she see? What did she hear?
Flailing arms, tilted hips, crossed feet
exaggerated elbows flung out
When standing the artist squinted
when sitting the movements were slower
Measurements made with the angle of a brush
Nary a mathematician could do better
she noted every detail about the painter
from wiggles to waddles and dawdles.
Did the artist capture the essence of the model?
Did the model learn even more about the artist?
Mannerisms never even self-observed
are noted and gossiped about with friends when she leaves
Over dinner with others, perhaps she reveals a bit too much
she makes fun of that way there is a grunt and squeak
when certain marks are made
Maintaining a pose was so hard, no laughing out loud
Elegant lady, some say haunting, some think sad, pensive
With what words would she describe the artist?
Manic, perfectionist, impatient, childlike, calm?
The Lady and her artist (unseen), a tale untold.

Did I leave the door unlocked?
Time to get out of here...
What was that sudden movement over there?
Ooh he/she looks interesting...
Well I've had enough of this!
Hmmm, coffee or a bubble tea?

Now this is a real painting with a strong emotional impact! Profound and deeply moving.

John, thanks a ton
Kay and Boa, much appreciated!!
Greggo, such an essay on artist/model relationship. Ain’t so old meself.... and, quite honestly, the model was an earlier portrait of mine. Nevertheless, I dig your thoughts and everything that goes into expressing them so beautifully.
Susan, using a good Sauvignon Blanc would be a waste. A cheap Chardonnay may do the job just as well.
Foblue, many thanks!
Rick, are these words the result of legalizing weed in Canada?....
Harry, much obliged!!!

So exotic looking. Pensive, yet very contained.
Love the texture.
