I haven't played with my pastel pencils in such a long time, I use to use pastels all the time. So good to pick them up again and I feel that love of them like I use to. I think I will find myself using them a lot more again.
This is a portrait of Lilly, I'm almost finished so will pop back again soon with the final artwork. Here are some progress shots

Holley thank you for taking up your pastel pencils again. Otherwise we would have lost such beatiful creations. This is splendid Holley.

I think you should pick up the pastels more often. This little kitty has come to life before our eyes. Speaking of eyes, you have drawn us in with those amazing blue eyes. More please!

That's really something Holley. What type of paper are you using?

Thank you all so much for your comments, I know I will be using the pastels a lot more again, I just loved painting this one! I am keen to get going on another piece.

Kiffin - I am not sure what brand paper it is to be honest, just bought it from the artstore, its thick and has a smooth surface, I particularly like to use smooth surfaces over course papers. Years ago I use to always use canson miteintes, the smoothside but it is a bit thin. I was never a fan a big fan of the colourfix I found it would chew up my pastels and I am quite delicate painter so prefer a paper with less tooth. This paper is finer than colourfix, unless they've introduced a finer paper? I don't know, I haven't done pastels for years, I will ask next time I buy some as I want to know what it is aswell :)

Finally finished, here is the final artwork...

A stunning finish, Holley! Those blue eyes are so life-like and the fur just begs us to put our fingers in so we can feel it. Whatever kind of paper you used, it was perfect for this!

Thank you Donna, so I went to the art store this morning and the paper is Art Spectrum Colourfix, but it does have less tooth than I remember so perhaps they have updated their range

Beautiful painting Holly. The eyes are stunning, although how you can paint just one and resist painting the other till later I do not know! :)
