View Full Version : WDE April 19 Early Autumn Garden (finished)
04-22-2019, 11:41 PM
Watercolor pencils, watercolor brush pens, and a few touches of pastel; on Arches hot press WC paper. Size is 10" x 7". Another 2 hours tonight, added to the 2-1/2 hours originally.
Barbara, I have taken some liberties with the garden. (Challenge - Imagination. ) And I added some sun "sparkle" to the sky. Regret I did not have correct white for the butterfly. I'll get some and re-do those white spots. Thanks for hosting a great WDE!

I like this one a lot Connie. I'm still scratching my head and very impressed how even with such a busy scene, your butterfly still stands present very strongly and blend in so beautifully at the same time. Big congrats from my part.

Sandy, I think the butterfly stands out, at least in part, because I consciously surrounded him with light, bright colors to contrast with the black lines edging his wings. (I noticed he did look kind of pulled into the tangle when there was more dark around him, so I made the change.) Also there are just three small dark pieces touching the butterfly, and they seem to lift him out from the foliage and flower tangle. This was not intentional. It's a nice accident!
At least that's how I see it, when I look at it analytically. Thanks for mentioning it, and thanks for the rest of your comment.

Thanks everyone for your comments -- very encouraging, as I search and grope for "my" style or styles.
