I did this a few months ago for the acrylic Different Strokes challenge when we had to paint realism in black and white.
I did this with white acrylic ink on black painted mountboard (mat board)- no mixing with black, just thinner or thicker white acrylic ink. 7.5" x 11" and around 2 hrs painting.

So dramatic and very beautiful. That white ink worked a treat.

Dramaticís the word. Very successful. The feeling of dense and rather menacing woodland is very strong.

This is Excellent!!! Black and white really has to be correct to work and look solid. In reading your description I can really appreciate how hard and the talent it took to produce this. The texture depiction is divine. I don't know how anyone else did in the challenge but I think its safe to say that you my friend, knocked it out of the park.
Well done.
