View Full Version : Is this good for my admission form?

My form for enrolling asks me why I want a place on this course, what my interests and ambitions are, etc.

Will this be an acceptable piece of writing for that box?

Having worked hard at home for the last few years improving my painting and drawing, I feel I am now ready for some professional guidance.

I am deeply committed to becoming the best artist I can be, but I feel like I belong in a world that I know little about the reality of. I want to embrace and learn all there is to know, and I hope this course, hopefully then followed by a Degree course, will allow me to immerse myself in an artistic life that I currently feel very cut off from.

I wish to improve all aspects of my work, from technical ability to learning how to put more of 'myself' into paintings and drawings. I would like to learn how to be less 'literal' when translating feelings, thoughts, opinions, etc into paint.

My biggest ambition at the moment is simply to better my skills and ways of working. Obviously I would ultimately like an artistic career, but for now my main focus is absorbing all I can to help me find my way through this wonderful artistic journey.

Art has chosen me, and in return, my focus and commitment are absolute.

Thanx,

Helen

From the view of someone who works in admissions,
I think you phrased your intentions very eloquently and sincerely.

Admissions officers can usually figure out whether the person is writing from the heart or if they are writing what they think the admissions officer wants to hear.

I give you 2 thumbs up!

Some questions:

Which college will you enroll in? What subjects?
Are you going as a full-time student?
Will you be applying for a grant?

I sound like the Inquisition.

I am asking because I am interested in doing some courses myself. How did you find out about suitable courses?

I agree with all of your statement above. I do wish you luck on securing a place.

Best of luck.

Helen, just a quick word on your application.

It seems fine but be careful about labelling yourself as a painter at this stage.

Fine art courses in the UK cover four seperate disciplines:

1 Painting
2 Printmaking
3 Sculpture
4 Photography

You'll be expected to try all these things on your Diploma Course, you'll really enjoy it.

Keep your options open and express a willingness to try different things, thats what they will be looking for. You won't really need to choose an area of specialisation until half way through the first year of your fine art degree so don't refer to yourself as just a painter although you can admit that this is what interests you most AT THIS STAGE but as I say be open to change or at least tell them you are anyway. ;)

Hope that helps bt don't worry if you've already sent it off, the interview is more important anyway.
