I don't paint many puppies, preferring to wait until they are more mature, but I jumped at the chance to paint this beautiful young Dalmation.
Who could resist those puppy eyes and the spotted coat?

A cute puppy. Only the background looks a bit unfinished to me.

Lovely portrait but I do agree with Esther that the background could use something more. While I'm here your painting of the Borzoi (next post) is absolutely spectacular!

Where in WA are you located? Our daughter has lived in Perth for the past 18 years. She's now a citizen -a 'CanAussie' since she holds dual passports. Wish she'd move back to Canada but she insists we should move to Oz. Unfortunately, she loves the intense heat and we don't. It's a beautiful city and those beaches!!! Lovely, friendly folks and spectacular flora & fauna. We're hoping to make a trip back either this fall or next spring.

Cheers,
Susan

Thank you all for taking the time to comment. The big challenge with this one was getting all the spots the right shape and in the right place. I kept the background simple with this one so it didn't compete with the puppies face. The area at top left and bottom right is bare paper but is a much more grey colour than it appears. Susan, I live in the beautiful Perth hills. I moved here from England 25 years ago and have never been back.

What a wonderful portrait indeed!
Very well done, I also like the background quite much.
The bottom black and pure paper on top form a good
contrast in addition with the dogs colour.
And the way he looks, - so nice!! That could be the only
reason to own a dog.
