A Russian hunting dog, the Borzoi, a fast and graceful hound. For centuries in Russia these dogs could not be bought, the only way to get one was as a gift from the Tsar!
Rembrandt pastels on Canson paper.

What a lovely painting! The background and the colors on the Borzoi are just perfect ! The dog’s expression is amazingly sweet. These dogs are such elegant refined creatures and you capture that beautifully

Another beautiful work from a master. There can't be many types of dogs that you have not painted.

Beautiful job. They are such regal looking dogs. I am a dog lover. So know my breeds but not everything about their history so this was enlightening. Thanks for sharing, very interesting.

Thank you for your comments everyone. Hunting dogs like this Borzoi are often referred to as 'gazehounds' as they hunt by sight rather than smell. Getting the eyes right becomes a bit tricky as they are usually focused on something far away!
