Hello All,

This is my first post here, longtime lurker in the oils forum. I read a fascinating article today in the NYT about new proof of women working at illumination in Medieval church text. Figured this would be the best place for it since no one seems to visit the Art History section.

That's very interesting. Thanks for sharing.

Sounds like a likely conclusion. It's difficult to imagine any other reason why someone would have the expensive and relatively rare pigment in their teeth.

I read a similar account in our Daily Telegraph (UK) - it showed the photo of a Nun's teeth with the lapis lazuli pigment deposits ........ a warning about us painters sucking the brushes!!!;)

Thanks for linking to the NYT.
