Welcome to the June Scumble. The heat of summer it seems is already upon us. As for myself, I haven't arted much. I have some new health issues which leave me pretty exhausted just at the end of a work day. Anyway, join us here to talk about art, every day lives and whatever else comes along.

i have been in the hospital since Sunday afternoon I started at the ER here in McCook and got transported to Bryan Medical Center cardiac unit in Lincoln, NE. I just got back home yesterday. They thought bloodwork showed a mild heart attack. That was not the case. Although I do have cardiomyopathy (hardening of the heart walls.) This is due to a rare form of blood cancer known as Amyloidosis. It involves the platelets, which are throwing out too much calcium and too many proteins from my kidneys and depositing them in my heart, causing my heart walls to harden. It can be treated with chemo, but mine isn't serious enough to do that yet. I also had a huge vitamin B12 deficiency from taking Metformin for so long for my diabetes. So I am also on B12 shots. I will have to have a bone marrow biopsy every six to 12 months to check the progress, if any, on the cancer. Had one done yesterday and the results weren't all in yet. They will contact me.

I have a blood clot in my left calf as well. I'm on blood thinner for probably the next six months so it dissolves and doesn't break off.

I'm so sorry to hear this, Christine! I hope you're feeling better and that your doctors can do the best that is possible to treat you. Take it easy and I hope things go better for you from now on.

Oh my gosh! All at once? Christine, I'm so sorry. Are you at least close to a treatment center?

All of my treatments, at this point, will be done here at my local doctor and hospital. I may have to go to Colorado to a specialty place that works only with Amyloidosis for cures and/or treatments, to consult with them.

Good news this morning! I do not have the rare blood cancer they thought I had! Still have some testing to do and a procedure to try to clear up my anemia issue. My cardiologist and my doctor both seem to think my shortness of breath will clear up when we solve the anemia problem because I'm short on blood, which carries oxygen. I do have hardening of the heart walls, but it's not a lot and they think it might be hereditary. My mother had a bad heart, but I couldn't tell anyone what her issues were. You know, those old folks never told us much back then. Didn't want to worry anyone you know! So, there's hope for me yet and I'm not dying from cancer!

Wow, that's fantastic news! Time to celebrate and look forward to your future. I hope you'll get that anemia taken care of soon; you'll probably feel better and have more energy ... for painting!

Absolutely! Haven't had a lot of that lately.

Christine, I'm so glad it isn't cancer.
B12 deficitcy can have many bad symptoms, but it sure beats cancer.

It isn't raining here today, somewhat of a miracle. Everything is soggy, with lots of slugs. Not the best gardening weather.
