View Full Version : Sold!!!
I've got news!! Remember my first portrait?
... She's just become my first sale :)
Out of the blue three days ago came a PM from the mother of the little girl whose photo I used as a reference, saying she loved what I'd done and wished to buy my pastel as a christmas present for her own mother!
I'm so fond of this little face ... It's the first time I've parted with a painting for money and I'm surprised by the confused emotions I've had since that message arrived. For me, though, the knowledge that this christmas, she will be on her grandmother's wall (on the other side of the world!) is a really special ending to this painting's story. I've packed her up securely in a 'pastel sandwich' under protective cushion wrap and glassine paper, and will send her out tomorrow.
After a lifetime of knowing I wanted to make art, and eight months after discovering 'my medium' and being transformed into this antisocial person with green gunk under my fingernails and my answerphone permanently on, finally I feel that what I'm doing might mean something outside my own desire to paint. Thanks to all my pastel friends for their encouragement and advice, and thanks especially to Dawn for her time and help :)

Congratulations E-J!! My sentiments exactly, but it sure is a good feeling to make someone else happy!
I think the mixed feelings come because it was your first portrait, you poured your heart and soul into it, and it identified you as a bona fide portraitist and artist.
Now go forth and produce more!! LOL

Besides the fact that it's a gorgeous painting, it's cool that an offer to buy came out of the blue. You didn't even try to sell it.
And now you can say you sell internationally!
