This one's on paper 13 X 20 in. Heavy body acrylics heavily thinned with Golden Open gloss medium. Painted directly over another work that I didn't like. No gesso, no sanding. On 140 lb. hot press watercolor paper.

Sky's a little dark, no river reflections yet, far bank needs personality ...

Photo is too dark. Sorry 'bout that.

Gayle, you're more than welcome. There's popcorn and beverages at the concession stand.

Thanks blue. I appreciate your support.

Is it at all possible to take a lighter photo? I think we are missing the beautiful colours that you have used.

Yes, I will post an update with better reproduction.

Brighter photo. Lightened up the sky a bit. Getting a little sizzle where the orange and blue meet in the sky. Going to go for more of that at the far horizon.

Pondering how far away to push the far bank. Maybe I'll leave it where it is and let the art historians ponder why I flattened the 3D space so much.

Phoo. Just spotted those two parallel marks in the upper left.

Really love the updated version, Cliff. It has some really nice colours singing together. (Or maybe that's Blue yodelling in the bushes )

Cliff...based on the prior two comments, you can title this one..."What's Going On in the Bushes?".....

but truly, the updated version colors are so much more complicated and harmonious......makes one follow the intensive brushwork....

Katie,
Bluefish,
Colin,
Fedetony

Thank you for the kind comments. Glad you like it so far.

Not going to reveal what's going on in the bushes. I will admit that my sister, Nancy Lloyd of Nancy Lloyd Fine Art, New Hope, PA, accuses me of putting polar bears into my paintings. In fact, she says there's one in this painting.

a polar bear ?....and all the while I thought it was Katie hanging out her laundry....

Great texture so far and I like those salmon tones- the really emulate sunlight. I know of at least one painter who always under paints in salmon.

Thank you, Chris. Worked on it a bit more today. I feel like I"m closing in on it.

Blue, not at liberty to divulge what's going on. Neither confirming nor denying.

I'm sure it will be very becoming and have lots of color harmony

Closing in on the finished work. Added a bit more color to the far bank and surface of the water.

Biggest change is the blue on the surface of the water where it meets the horizon. The edge is much too strong right now, but if I can exactly match the value between the orange and the blue, the line should essentially vanish but your eye will still get the vibration from the complementary colors. That's the plan, anyway, if I can bring it off.

And here's a closeup of that sharp dividing line.

Very nice indeed. Your colour mix is bold and unusual and you have pulled it off nicely.
