I haven't posted anything in a long time so I thought I would. This is a painting I finished recently. I spent a lot of time on the wood and I think that shows but I think the lack of direction of the sunlight or shadow just doesn't work for me. What do you think?

I love old windows. This looks good.

I just love the wood. I struggle with the direction of light too and so I don't know if this is good advice, but maybe considering a shadow thrown from the climbing vine can help define the direction of the light?

If there's sunlight you should have shadows!
It could also (depending on direction) suggest some interior.
If the frame is proud of the wall wood, there'd be shadow to one side and the bottom.
I think adding some light variation and shadows would make this work even nicer.:)

Thank you for both the kind words and the advice. Sometimes you cant see the forest for the trees. Making the window and vine stand out with some shadows may be what I was looking for.

I think the work on the wood is wonderful. Maybe it's a cloudy day with no distinct shadows.
I would expect to see some suggestion of things inside the building.

Looks Great. I love Barn paintings. My Late Artist Friend use to paint so many Barns and closeups of barns, that he Earned the Nickname "Barney" LOL

Lovely image... glass is not convincing, rest is... I think you need to work in the reflections :)
