Wow! This looks like something we'd see in one of the art magazines. You've captured the essence of the sprawling city- even the humidity. Love the atmosphere and sense of distance. Are those figures in the lower left?

I wish I had the words to adequately describe the feelings this painting evokes. Incredible...

Artch - thanks a lot! and yes, there are two youngsters sat on the grass to the left of the painting, hence the title neighbours :)

grampy - I'm enjoying the journey

What blue said - ^^^^^ - I too looked for the washing right after thinking how great that far distance is!
I really love the contrast of the abstract quality of using the credit card with the precision of that same card edges for the buildings - good control!

Question - because I find such work difficult!!! - how mush paint do you actually lay out on the palette? .......... I think I'm just too mean!!!!

gaykir - thanks I enjoyed this a lot.

CM - Thanks, I tend to squeeze a decent size amount of colour on my palette because once I'm in the flow of things I don't want that momentum to be interrupted by having to stop and go look for more paint. Sometimes I feel a pang of regret if I waste some paint but I would rather do that than run out whilst I'm painting.:cat:

Cezanne, but with more buildings.

Next thing you know, bluefish will be telling you to turn the laundry into sailboat sails.

only if she does a 'seascape'......then the 'trademark' is 'sailboats' instead of 'washing' (laundry here).... :p

Katie...you can keep your 'famous trademark' by having the sailboats moored, with the sails down and 'washing' hanging from the masts!.... can't wait to see this one...;)

we're always here for you....little 'helpful hinters'...

Cliff - thanks very much! :)
Blue - well, if I ever do attempt a seascape I'm sure I can manage to squeeze some laundry onboard. :cat:

A really exciting and complex work. I like the contrast of the more conventional, soft clouds painting above the linear and blocked plastic card areas of the city. Your use of white is particularly sensitive.:)

So powerful, Katie. If I listen closely I can hear kids playing in the spray of a fire hydrant, a police siren and a street vendor hawking his wares. It smells of sultry Summer asphalt, fresh paint and car exhaust.
