Hi folks. New here and not sure if this is proper protocol for newbs to post photos. I started painting around a year ago. I've promised myself I'd try it and finally jumped in. I have to say I'm having more fun than I have in a long time. Anyway, this is my first try, from May 2017: This is 'Coral Trout', Acrylic on 12 X 16 canvas board.

Hi and welcome. It is fun and maybe join us in the Challenge sometime. Now that is one very cool looking fish. Really like it, nice bright colors, and well done.

This is my second effort from may 2017...found out how immersive painting can be:

That doesn't look a first try, well done!

Now you just need to work on photography and photo editing so we can get a better look. :D

Thanks y'all. I think the most intimidated I've felt in a very long time was sitting down in front of a blank canvas the first time.

Michelle, my original photos were too large so had to resize them. May have made them too small.

Doesn't look like a first try at all. Nice work.

For photos, crop away the easel and all the other unnecessary marginalia. Scale the image so the largest dimension is 800 pixels. Tell your image editor to preserve the aspect ratio.

If you don't have an image editor, an excellent free choice is GIMP, available at gimp.org. There may be others, but I just use GIMP.

All the work is nice. Well rendered. Personally I would never have dared this much symmetry in a painting, but it works here. Bravo.

Wesley, I also have to mention the one-a-day rule. A user may start only one thread per day. The reason is to allow threads to stay on the front page as long as possible so more people can see them.

A moderator will be along by and by to merge the two threads from the 24th.

Really great. Not sure if it's intended but the placement of the dolphins, the light aura from the sun, the reflected sunlight on the water and the blue ripples sort of look like a smiley face. With a few tweaks this could be a Salvador Dali :) Very nicely rendered.

Thank you. Missed that rule.

Thank you cliff. I used 'Paint' to resize. I'll take a look at Gimp.

Welcome to the Acrylics Forum Wesley.

I have merged your two threads as we have a rule in the Forum limiting members to one new thread every 24 hours.

You are doing well. Great colours!

Gorgeous! And that dolphin one is insane. Have you worked with other mediums before?

I haven't done anything before, Keke. I really suck at drawing but for some reason the brushes make sense...if that makes sense. lol

I understand that. I suck at drawing and have to use a grid to get things right. The shading or painting is the fun part.

Both really good and you started out much better than I did!
The trout is lovely and the Dolphin one is really wonderful.

I agree wholeheartedly. The only description I can come up with is "complete immersion". Hours go by sometimes before I come up for air.
