Normally I use a spray varnish, I decided to try a different a approach since the spray was a little toxic and I can only use it outdoors. So I got a Liquitex glossy varnish and applied it to a painting I finished a few days ago and it seems a bit...uneven. I'm not sure if I did it wrong or not.

This is the painting before the varnish was applied (The image is sideways FYI):

It seems that the shine is uneven am I crazy? Can I fix this, I mean I've only put one coat on so far...

That's normal. The more coats you add the more even it will become.

if you utilize 'two coats' 90 degrees from the first, it will even out and be fine....

Thanks for the advice. I'm going to put a second coat on today, though unfortunately it looks like a few pieces of dirt or dust got stuck to it!!
