View Full Version : Repair with gesso or titanium white?

I started a painting the other night and it features a lot of sky; but I don't like how I've done the bottoms, and I've gone over it so many times now that I just need to block it out and start over, I think. I want to cover about an inch into the cloud and below it, and I am unsure if I should do this with gesso or white paint?

I ask because there are a few layers there now and that portion of the painting now feels 'plasticy' compared to the rest. Will one of these give me a better surface to proceed on?

A light sanding and a few coats of Gesso would adhere and cover better. If it was me I'd probably use it as a practice panel and start with a new panel or canvas.

I agree - sand first.:)

I disagree a bit. FIRST make certain that ALL the layers are thoroughly dry before considering sanding. BTW acrylic gesso is fine to cover messes as it tit white. Gesso is cheaper but you may need two coats to truly cover goofs.
