View Full Version : SBD Dauntless (X-Post from Maritime)

I'll tweak a few things here and there, but I think I've done all I can given my skill level. It's time to start another.
C&C please - particularly on how I handled the wave patterns. I will say that from 3-4 feet away it's not bad.
Precise lines continue to bedevil as well - but I suppose that's just practice.
Skills aside, I also know I need to get better at framing the story. The eye has nothing to follow...it's just a Dauntless.

Okay, I like the waves. I would pick a nit that the dihedral of the SBD's wings was slightly more acute than that, but it is still instantly recognizable. Well done

I think you can get away with the wave patterns you have, but you need to change the blue to show distance in the painting. Take the cue from the far landmass that you have really washed out.
Come check out the aviation forum, and you can get a lot more feedback. Just let everyone know how much you want as it may be very easy to get overloaded. There are some professional aviation artists that hang out there!

Thanks! Aviation is not one of the menu items...use the search function? Vegaskip in maritime also suggested that I lighten my water nearer to the horizon - something I will do this weekend.

Use the Forum Jump at the bottom of the page, scroll down to 'Explore Subjects' and Avviation is 3rd (or 4th?) beneath the heading.
Can't comment on the subject as I'm not a plane buff! ... for edges though, you can mask to get a straight line.:)

Thomas, very nice what you have done on the plane, yes lighten towards the horizon. I have also had a problem getting onto the Aviation forum, if I attempt through the menu it shows no threads in this section, but through the link that Maureen gave me it's fine.???

Thanks, all! I did find the secret door and nosed around. Great stuff there.

Nice work! I agree with the other comments regarding the water.
