Here is my Mallards WIP.

I intend to add tall yellow-ish grass to the background. Also, the females need their yellow-ish breast feathers put on.

CC welcome.

Mary, this looks great! So peaceful!

How about putting some shading on the beaks, as you have done for the bodies? It will make them look 3-dimensional. One duck's beak has shading, it looks like (the one in back).

Other than that, perfect and it looks very powerful, you can feel the motion of the ducks gliding through water!

Cathy: Great suggestion. There's little (if any) shading on the beaks in the photo... a bit of a green tinge that I haven't added yet, but I think you're right. They could use some rounding.

Thanks!
Mary.

This looks very nice. I like the sheen on the green of the mallards' head.

Here's the updated picture. Almost finished to the best of my ability and patience.

Please let me know what you think. CC welcome.

I should say that the size is 11x14 on a Ampersand panel. All acrylic - a mix of Golden Open, and both Golden and Liquitex acrylics (depending on the color needed and how fast I wanted it to dry).

You've so caught the sheen and glow on the birds! There's been a flock of Mallards in a tiny bit of open water in the frozen river ice this long cold winter, we see them every day on our dog walks. Beautiful creatures, I can say you're doing them justice, cheers!

I like the way you have grouped the ducks and given them different orientations.

Thanks Everyone!

oldnmartist: I didn't actually group the ducks that way... that's how they were in real life, in the photo. I did scoot one down a smidge so that she didn't appear to be sitting on top of the male's head, though. ;-)

I think the last thing to do is to add a few highlights and it'll be done.
