I use Golden paints, but could not resist a bargain offering on Liquitex glazing medium. Nightmare! - glazes turned to paste (only slightly exagerating) as soon as they left the brush.

Exasperated, frustrated, wit's end, I turned to a painter's last vestige - the label. Second bullet point reads "Dries quickly for fast layering". What? Excuse me - dries quickly? I stopped reading right there in fear the third bullet point might read "dries opaque for U.V. protection".

This seems like the old ad man's trick of turning a liability into a feature. Or am I missing something?

Apparently it was designed for quick layers, not the slower, methodical glazing technique that many painters use. The only acrylic medium I have that is labeled as a "glazing" medium is from Daler Rowney (sp?). It is pretty slow drying.

If you have some slow dry medium you may want to experiment with how much to add to this quick drying stuff you have so that it dries the way you want it to.

Yeah, it is fast drying. I thin mine with water. Helps a lot

I use the regular line of Golden Acrylics, both heavy body and liquid, with their Golden Open Gel Medium-Gloss. I get the best of both worlds and I love the extended working time I get with my paints when I use even a little of this Golden Open medium. I will include a link to this product on Blick's site so you can check it out for yourself.

It has made life (and painting) so much easier since I discovered it.

Hope this helps,

Beverly

I love Golden. They seem to be very reliable, while I've had mixed results with Liquitex. There's one color I've purchased twice (a purple), and both times it's been kind of gelled. The glazing medium is awful.

If you scroll down to the bottom of each product description page it should list price/order info - instead it says "loading item data" -- but it's not. This has been happening with blick for me for over a month. I ordered $200 of paints from Jerry's because I couldn't get their item price/order page.

But last night I tried again with my tablet and the price/order page loaded perfectly. My tablet is android, and my desktop is Windows - so there may be a problem with certain Windows computers and their site.

You want a thin medium for glazing....not a gel.

They also have regular Golden Open medium. It is thinner than the gel but the gel is just what I prefer for the way I work.

Sorry to hear about the problems following the link I posted. When I click on it, it works perfectly. The product prices are listed when you scroll down the page. I'm using a Dell XPS PC running Windows 10 and using the Firefox browser. I know Windows 10 has certainly had a lot of problems for folks. This may be a browser issue or something going on with Blick's site.
