Nice composition and feel to this work.

Hey Hairy -
I like the feel to this work also. The colors are calming and peaceful together.

Overall though, I get the impression of a WIP of a modern Madonna with child in arms and at the same time the suspicion that the babe was intentionally left undefined and up to the viewer as a sort of universality statement.

I like it.

My dear Trier, I greatly appreciate your input. Have been for a long time. You know it. In this particular instance I must politely suggest that the red shapes around the figure have nothing to do with a child. They are abstract marks. I have been struggling for quite a while with attempting to combine abstract mark making with figures in a manner that will work. Hey, it ainít easy, as you know. That said, itís all in the eye of the beholder and your eye is important to me. Iím sure you know what I mean.
Kay and Bo, many many thanks!

great comp and good moody colors ... to me it's a break up story or a memory of someone in her past, of a dance perhaps or an embrace. there's an edge of anger in the dark darks, a brooding perhaps, but i'm choosing not to go there, today.

not sure of the brown angled 'arm' on the right, it may be more distracting than necessary

the title suggests that I actually thought you had been serious in the past ...
and that you are not now serious ...

the green dog watches
the green rabbit cuddles
Stieffel with blue dress on
dances and huddles

a mark made here
a mark made there
dark marks c light marks
everywhere everywhere

sombre colors
mutted tones
earthy and rich
filthy dirty undertones

happy not
sad not too
farmlands farm lass
a moment in the day
just a moment in the day

this has a strange unexplainable appeal.
good to be able to type today
this is worth the pain

This is amazing. Greggo! you said it all and said it well. This is just one of those paintings that hits home and you don't even know why. Magnificent.

I could see how the Madonna connection was made, especially because of the blue skirt. It's a nice composition and expressionist rendering. Well done.
