Here's my take on the mountain scene. Awesome photo to begin with. I felt adding a path and closer trees would help improve the composition....12x16 inches senns/mungyos on arches cold press oil paper. My first of 2018! Thanks Christel for hosting and great refs to choose from!

Nice job on that grizzly bear, maela49! You followed the contours of his head and nose very well.
Rich, you're rocking that Arches oil paper. ;) I like the addition of the path, I think it gives something for the eye to follow into the painting. I see lots of texture in the sky - yum!!

Christel- love the colors of the sky
maela49- Great job on the texture of the bear. The head is a bit too round (should be more square).
Rich- Love the light and shade

Thank you for the lovely references and I am enjoying the paintings very much.
I have never seen a bluebird and just HAD to paint him! I've added some leaves as I felt very sorry for him on the barbed wire. Confession: I drew him on white paper which was totally wrong so cut him out and pasted him on thin blue paper. It's A4 in size and all oil pastels of course!:)

Very nice work, Margaretta! I like your chosen palette, and you did a good job with the details. The beak, the eye, and nice thin lines along the wing and tail feathers make this very pretty to look at. I love your pretty little branch!
I had not thought to cut out a subject and post on delicate paper like this - great idea.

Beautiful version of the bluebird, Margaretta. That is a new one for me - cutting out and pasting, cool!

Hi Christel and all of you, it's been a long time since I last visited WC (and since I last painted or drew something). I'm looking forward to having time for art again.
I saw the awesome first reference you posted and thought "I already painted it a some years ago", so I decided to post it with the only pourpose of getting in touch with you all.
