Ron Guthrie, used to be a moderator of this forum. He was a big help to me when I first started painting. He always had a word of encouragement for everyone. He always thanked everyone individually who commented on his paintings. I understand that he died of cancer. He was a generous, wonderful man, and he will be missed.

Oh ja, Ron war ein sehr netter und freundlicher Mann.
Durch Zufall ist bekannt geworden, dass er in Deutschland
stationiert war. Daraus entwickelte sich eine lockere Mail-
Freundschaft.
Ich bedauere seinen "Abschied" sehr!
Mein aufrichtiges Beileid für seine Familie.

Oh yes, Ron was a very nice and friendly man.
By chance it became known that he was stationed in Germany.
This developed into a loose mail-friendship.
I regret his "farewell" very much!
My sincere condolences to his family.

Ernst

So sad Viking57 or Ron as I came to know him was such an amazing painter. He always encouraged me in my tree painting. He could paint just about anything. Such a sad loss to us all. Just been looking at his website and blog, really is worth taking a look at his fabulous paintings. Hope he wouldn't have minded me sharing my favourite painting of his. RIP Ron. Valley Evening.

A couple of weeks ago, Ron was hoping to get back to painting. Apparently, the pain in his back was preventing that. He was the voice of encouragement to so many. It didn't matter if it was a bad painting. He congratulated you on your efforts. Many of us are better for having Ron as a mentor and as a friend. He will indeed be missed.

I haven't been on here in a very long time and today of all days. I am shocked and saddened to read the news of Ron's death. He was one of the most gifted artists out there, his love of painting came through in every piece he produced. Ron's guidance and instruction for painting landscapes will be sorely missed by many on Wetcanvas. He taught me a lot about being an artist and the technicals, I will always remember and be thankful - a mentor who can't be replaced.
