I like the idea of combining music and water. Going about it isn't so easy always. This is my latest attempt. The image was rendered using 3d studio max and vray. This is mostly a concept so far so everything was rendered in one pass and I just did a little color correction. Comments are welcome but this is just a work in progress. I already plan to remove all the extra pianos. I was interested in seeing the repetition.

The idea started with this. But I wasn't sure I cared for it.

I added a fog thinking I'd like this more and I did but I still didn't think I liked it. :(

I think I may come back to this idea and work it a little more.

I like the first one best. I like the lanterns. Maybe pianos on a small island? with tiki torches and palm trees?

Hi Elaine! Thank you for the comment! That would be an interesting image. I was leaning more towards changing my trees to conifers and putting the pianos onto little icebergs. But I'm not sure that is really what I'm after either. I will keep thinking about it. Thank you very much for the suggestion.

I like the first one too, with the fog and the lamps. You should keep that one, or something like it.

Hi Michelle! Thank you. After I removed all of the extra pianos, rafts, lamps,... I realized that I do prefer them. Should follow my gut sometimes, I guess. I'm working on putting them back and adding a little more motion to some things.

I think I'm going with this for a while. The new water surface introduced some odd light reflections in the distance that I may try to fix.

Thank you, Michelle. After spending today looking at this, I think I still have a ways to go. One thing I need to do is get more lighting from the lights on the nearest raft. It would be nice to see some shadows and brighten the sheet music and foreground a little. Right now the foreground is pretty life less and muddy. I also want to bring out the reflections of the lights on the water surface. Iím sure there are a few more things I could touch on.

this is fabulous! I like the way it is coming along and I like seeing your thought process.

This is the one I decided to go with. I'm calling it Pianos on a Lake. I removed the blowing pages because I felt the wind was becoming more of the subject than I wanted it to be. I don't really miss the motion. It was kind of hard to notice anyway.

I grew up wanting to become an artist. I went to college to become an artist. But when I graduated I went into a field that was more tech and engineering than art. And I have been there ever since. I look back fairly often and look at all of the chances I had to change that if only I had been brave enough to do it. I just needed to take the plunge. Dive in and swim to my dream. Sure, once out there the raft could tilt and could slip off and have nothing but maybe it would be worth the risk. That is kind of what this image is about. For what it is worth.

Something else going on (or what I was shooting for) is being in the morning it makes me wonder what went on here the night before. It gives me a little feeling of 'What did I miss ?'

Anyway, that is what this is about to me.

Barb, thank you. I do enjoy hearing about what others think about their own work as far as what inspired the work. It is very interesting to me. It is kind of scary to do though. I guess I think if I want to hear it from others I need to be able to do it.

And now I look chatty...

It's always interesting to hear about the process and thought behind a painting.

I would leave it there - too easy to overwork a great image:clap:
