View Full Version : Wales Snowdonia thick paint again

Attempted to use the new Painter 2018 and those thick paint brushes, not a great success for me, the best part perhaps are those palette knife stripes along the lake shore, the rest of the painting mainly oils. Early days so perhaps practice will get me to understand the brush better.

i don't have painter 2018, and don't think I will get it. Seems like I have already all the brushes I need or want. This is a nice painting, but can not see any difference from other brushes.

Lucy, it seems there is a learning curve with 2018 and I even used an old brush, Fibre from 2013?, so I am inclined to agree with your thoughts.

But it was a BP.

This is wonderful John! There is a big learning curve on the thick paint brushes. I don't find any that are useful out of the box and I do a lot of tweaking to make them respond. I also use texture a LOT with these brushes. Keep trying! It is taking me forever to get my head around these because there are so many controls>
I know there might be a class in thick brushes from one of the instructors I use all the time. If you have any interest, Let me know and I'll keep you posted

Thanks all for encoureagement, new brushes and programs get harder with age for me, its retaining memory of what I did and then needing recall

Textures are difficult for me with landscape, I am inclined to a little realism.

Yes B'anna I am up for it but warn the instructor it might not be an easy task.

I won't be getting 2018, I just got 2017, and that was going from 12.

You should enjoy 2017, not easy but study tutorials re palettes etc. save some of your favourite brushes to 2017, have a LF file of brushes you want to use at the bottom of the brush list. etc. etc. etc.
Look forward to your new painting threads, you know the members here are very willing to help via mail as well.
