Hi all,
this is a painting my niece asked me to do for her of my father who passed away 9 years ago this April.
I hope that I have captured his personality, he spent his life outside in the sun and I wanted the background to kind of reflect that. How did I do?
Art spectrum and Mount vision pastels on A3 size pastelmat
all comments welcome,
Deanna

Deanna,sorry for your father.
But your painting is so beautiful that you gave him a new life on it! I believe you totally caught the expression, a very gentle expression, smiling eyes ( so vivid!) and a subtle, calm smile on his mouth. Love the skin tones and the contrast of warm and cool colors, throughout all painting.

Such a great work from a great artist, your niece will love it!

Deanna, wonderful portrait full of life!
The warmth and sense volume/ flesh is excellent!
Very small point - the hard edges on his collar are distracting...otherwise love it!

Very well done. The colors in the shirt are spot on.

Thanks everyone
I have changed the background a bit and made the shirt a bit more yellow as Don suggpested
Photo was taken in Fluor light but the colours are fairly accurate

It is a great tribute to your father. The painting is exceptional using the pastel to the extreme.

Deana, you have a gift. That color change works so well! It reminded me of my own dad who passed away three years ago in January at the age of 86. He had much the same demeanor as your father. Made my heart stop a moment when I saw the warmer color story. My Dad's expression was almost identical, too!
