In the last few months, I've received two awards for my cityscapes!

The first was a Best in Show at the district level from the League for Innovation art competition for my painting, "First and Virginia" (8x10, oil on canvas panel):

...and, I also was awarded First Place by the SCC Invitational competition for "Now You See It," (18x24, oil on canvas):

These were the first competitions I've entered, so I'm incredibly honored and excited by these awards!

contumacious and Dave, many thanks!

Dave, I hope it was OK to repost them in this thread! By the time I wondered about that the thread was already posted. Maybe Jon or Wendy will weigh in...

I like the first one in particular. Good tonal values and greys. But there seems to be a little bit of 'sinking in' of the oil paint. Toning your canvas with a wash of oil paint helps to keep the paint fresh.

s jackson and Myse, many thanks for the kind words!

Myse, there was a competition and the instructor I had at the time encouraged me to enter it. I almost didn't and was very surprised to find I had won.
