View Full Version : WDE June 16 challenge attempt
06-18-2017, 08:16 AM
acrylics on 8x8 canvas board, about 2 hours
It was harder than I thought; I kept reverting to the "real" colors unconsciously. Even now I see a green strip that should be yellow. But it was a good exercise and I will try it again.
First stage, values underpainting"
Final, although I'm tempted to fuss with it some more.

It is perfect, Wendy! A nice blend and soft flow from values to color. One thing that helps me the most is to print a copy of the ref on a laser printer that isn't a color printer and only work from that, never looking at the local colors anymore.

Love these colors, Wendy - it just shows when you use the correct values - you can use any color.
Very nice selection of colours!

Nice work on both of them.Imelda
Good work on the challenge. It's just more proof that values are more important than accurate color. Like your color choices. It almost makes it a fall scene.

It reminds me of a road I used to walk along as a young girl to catch the bus to school - wonderfull light in this painting - well done!

Beautiful, Wendy! I love the distant blues and the complementary oranges. I think the exercise was a success (I did one too, and it is a challenge!).
